Rearranging and Removing Portals

Well, they’re considered “current content” so of course they’ll bend over backwards to get you going to it. That’s all they care about. That they can tout numbers of “3.7 million players liked warfronts!”

When its was more like “3.2 million did warfronts for the gear”

Hey, don’t be sexist!
I’m sure complacency has destroyed many a good woman too! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

There are many examples of businesses who have made this same mistake. They became so egocentric that they failed to pay attention as more businesses entered into the market. They figured that the customers they angered would come back because they knew, were loyal to, and had spent years with the brand. When I taught customer care/recovery, one of the lessons I taught was the concept that if you allow a customer the opportunity to try a competitor due to your lack of customer care, you risk losing them completely. There are too many businesses that want to steal marketshare.

The portal argument may seem silly to some, however, it is more about a company making decisions that are in conflict with what their customers want. It also opens the door for competitors to steal those customers.

Blizzard have certainly lost my trust.

Some people have suggested we should go to the trouble of earning portal artifacts on our myriad alts. Sure - we should spend hundreds of hours grinding reps for these to replace the stolen portals - just to have Blizzard remove them from the game after we’ve earned them.

And people less affected by such a decision would still jerk around with their: “cry more babies, everything was tougher in Vanilla, it doesn’t affect me, and please Blizz baby kick me harder,” trolling.

And a green actually suggested early on in one of these big portal threads Blizzard might let us earn back the missing portals as though we should be thrilled with his great idea. I do wonder if Blizzard might not be wanting to do something like that.

They’ve already learned to “create content” by removing something we want and then “kindly compromising” by letting us spend our time earning it back.

Had an interesting thought, supposedly I have seen people talking about getting a free invite to play this weekend in BFA for free. Can you imagine that you bring in a decent amount of people in, people check out some older stuff and cannot find the portals that are suppose to be there. Those people end up complaining or flat out hating the change and this plan has just backfired.

All just a thought mind you

Has a post reached 10,000 replies before this one, almost there  can we pass the megathread at 13k

Portal room was a good idea, how ever I’m finding getting to firelands is gross.

Wish I stayed dark iron, I could of avoided your push for “time played”.

I get the removal of faction city portals like not having 20 different ironforge portals, but c’mon. bring back the portals unde dalaran like the cavern of times one.

So this is weird. I specifically remember using the thunderbluff portal in the great seal on my low level zandalari a couple days ago, but now it’s just gone? Did they shadow patch this or something?

It’s still there on my 120s, but my zandalari can now only go to orgrimmar. Why?

Can you imagine how much lower the player participation in “patrolling” the warfront zones would be without the ease of portals and the lure of world boss gear?

Because fun was detected. They want all these new toons everyone made to have to travel on foot. The reason is the fact that you’ll get tired of slow travel and boost. That will be $60 in their pockets.

Is that the welcome back weekend thing I saw on the launcher?

Remember when Blizzard didn’t design their game in such a way that players only came back for the new patch and then left again?

well, it is the end of the quarter and they need to shore up their revenue.

Oh ya, I now see it on the launcher

I guess I could go through my old accounts and see if there is anything leftover to transfer to my main account shrug

I don’t remember there even being any characters on the couple extra accounts I had way back when

I suspect this plan would work better if the game were currently more fun.

Chromie appears, gibbering like an overcaffeinated Gnome: “Omg! Champion! The Elder Gods, they… oh! It’s too terrible! Come look!”

Chromie opens a portal.

You arrive on {grassy planes(H) / snowy peaks(H)}.

The shattered towers of Dalaran splay outward from a vast smoking mound where {Thunder Bluff(H) / Iron Forge(A)} once was.

Chromie chitters “Khadgar went bonkers! He’s been possessed by an Elder God!!”

Chromie says "He … teleported Dalaran here ALL BY HIMSELF, and then dispelled the levitators! It killed EVERYBODY!

Chromie cries “It ruptured almost the entire portal network, backwards and forwards through time! It’s barely working again at all now!”

Shadow Khadgar rises from the smoking wreckage “NEVER ENDING FLIGHTPATHS AND INSUFFERABLE DAD JOKES WILL BE YOUR ETERNAL DOOM! YOU CAN’T DALA-RUN AWAY FROM THIS FATE! HA! HA!”

don’t bother… i asked for a source, and got sent to a source which provides a reference which not only isn’t linked in the article, but doesn’t appear to exist when searched for.

that’s some anit-vaxer level research right there.

Well the portals are gone, I’ve given it a week and I’m not anymore pleased than I was when I first heard of this scheme.

Fact is I’ve been using portals to efficiently travel around Azeroth since Cata (8 years, longer than the current devs have even been in the picture I believe) and I am especially aggravated about the loss of the really old one, the Blasted Lands portal, indispensable for horde looking to travel to southern Eastern Kingdoms quickly (I would even use it on my mages) and even something I used on my alliance toons to hop through the Dark Portal more quickly. Add in loss of the Undercity portal (I can’t travel to Undercity quickly now and with removal of the Dalaran Crater port my only ways to access that region are to take a FP from Silvermoon after running through the entire city to the flight master then fly from EP or take the portal from Twilight Highlands which I’m sure you’ll be coming for next and fly an even longer distance but without having to ground mount or use an FP) and I am quite regularly incensed. Then there are more minor annoyances like the Caverns of Time portal being removed (available to those without rep since I believe Wrath in violet citadel), and the portal straight to Hellfire Peninsula being removed (and with the removal of the Blasted Lands portal I can’t just take that one and walk through while the zone is time-warped).

These are habits I’ve had for years, 8 years, 6 years, the kind of a habit I’m not going to forget in a week or two years or four years, this is a burning resentment I’m going to feel every day I need to travel somewhere. I and many other players are going to curse the dev team every time we are forced to stare at landscape we’ve seen before and don’t care about because it isn’t the goal but an old journey.

How many of you devs would appreciate the California legislature slashing freeway max speeds to 20 mph in order that Californians such as yourself and I could “enjoy the scenery we pass by every day and appreciate it” on our way to work? I think we all know we’d all be incensed beyond reason at the imposition and yet you impose a similar time penalty and frustration on us with no more sense or reason than my hypothetical. My free time is worth something just as much as yours and I resent it being whittled away as much in a game I pay for by choice as I do while driving on a freeway I’m forced to use by necessity. The difference being of course I could stop paying for the game and my life would go on. We are going to curse your names when we end up in the Barrens as dead horde because we auto-flew off the map and died of fatigue on another continent while alt tabbed busy doing something else. We will never forget what we had not for an expac as an expac feature but for several as a game feature.

Long term strategy, don’t make me laugh, this isn’t even good short term strategy. The game is too big, it has too much content, instead of using it as a resource in a way that players would appreciate (accessibility) you are making it a burden, a tax, a mountain that looms imposingly in our path and tires us day after day as we are forced to climb over it until one day we begin to wonder whether the destination is really worth the journey. For years now increasing amounts of players have been answering no to that question and quitting, this decision will assure you that more do the same.
