As a healer main – have every healing class at 120 except for rsham – this is wild lol.
I cannot believe how many people here think healers should just sit on their thumbs instead of casting a damage spell. If you’re doing only 5% of the total damage, you’re still ending encounters 5% faster, which means your tank and dps took 5% less damage or did 5% fewer mechanics and so forth.
It isn’t elitism, it’s just … playing well and serving your group well. Of course you have to multitask as a healer, that’s kind of part of the job mate. Same for the tank having to do more than stand there and hold block, same for the DPS having to do more than just spam their 5-button rotation. We all kinda signed up to do our jobs well for the sake of the team as a whole.
Some of you are letting this make you feel inadequate or threatened. Don’t. It’s just an additional learning curve you must have missed the memo on; that’s okay! Start practicing. The old MoP proving grounds are a great place to practice a group setting with zero pressure and no one watching.
No, it absolutely is not serious content, you’re right – but it is where you should be learning your class, and you should be learning how to play the full kit of that class. There’s nothing wrong with encouraging people to press 2 extra buttons.
It’s really a bare minimum here, when in most games you’re expected to pull a much greater percentage of the DPS even as a healer.
This is why you get a group of like-minded people. Can’t really do that for leveling though unless you have a whole squad of friends. I don’t queue a random BG expecting maximum potential from my team (hope for it though!), but if I’m queuing 2200+ arena I would have a standard for sure though.
I love it how DPS people think they shouldn’t do anything but dps, but demand healers not only heal, but pick up their DPS slack. Like how would you feel if I told you you should be offtanking? No? Sounds stupid? You’re right, it is. Now stop telling us to do your job.
It is very dependant on the dungeon and team playstyles I pugged alot of healer dungeons to level some allied races for the heritage armor and there were alot of core mechanic problems.
Tanks not using defensive abilities (example DK only using death strike no ams, vb or if meaning incoming damage was much higher)
Dps not using any cc abilities (stuns interuppts) on mobs with high damage abilities (I had to stun a number of mobs as holy priest).
Light forged dreanei not using their racial on big pulls (uncapped aoe damage, as priest I could just pop that and be top dps for the first 30 seconds of a pull).
Dps not moving out of boss abilities (increased incoming damage)
Between all of the above sure I can get some dps in, if I am willing to let the tank hp drop to 20% I can even top the meters on the pulls but the tank won’t be happy about it.
Personally though when I started m+ dungeons I died the most as tank when healers thought their priority was dps first and heals second. Remember cheap heals are usually slower but save alot of mana. Instant heals have cds and fast heals are expensive so being proactive with healing can keep your mana up better than dpsing and then flash healing once people are low.
Agreed, you get what you get in a PuG. I’m definitely not advocating for anyone to be treated poorly for being still in the process of learning. The attitude here that they should never learn, though, is kind of wild.
The bare minimum for a healer to do their job, dear. Try to keep the full post in context.
You missed the part where I’m a healer main with every healer class up at 120 I guess? This is just my forum alt, been using it for years. Reading the whole post is good, friends.
Tbh I actually can’t believe folks have gotten so crazy to expect folks to treat LEVELING dungeons like a Mythic+ lmao.
I mean no. The bare minimum is just completing the dungeon in a general sense. It means all party members just do their thing and everyone is out and done. No one expects one another do anything and just gets things done.
I can’t believe you have to strawman it into “treating it like Mythic+” in order to pose an argument against “learning to use one’s full kit” lol but here we are.
I’m not referring to you. I’m talking about a previous poster. Don’t get so frazzled. If you don’t fall under the ‘some folks’ in my post then you aren’t part of the group I’m referring to.
I don’t see how that changes my opinion on dps telling healers to dps. Your forum alt is irrelevant to that.
Right? This is getting to absurd levels. Healers should be learning to heal in leveling dungeons. DPS should be learning to dps, tanks tanking. We have the tri-force of responsibility for a reason.
The day I expect DPS to interrupt or to dispel is the day is expect healers to DPS in leveling content. Until then, I have zero exceptions of anyone lol.
Errr, relevant because you were quoting me in order to say that? When I am a healer telling healers to DPS? If you don’t mean something towards me, don’t quote me in the reply.
Okay but, like, you do believe that an effective DPS should learn to do interrupts, right? Because that’s kind of the point here. Keeping expectations low is smart when you pug, but some posters here are acting like it’s ridiculous to even pose the philosophy that any role should use their full kit.
But it isn’t relevant, because I’m a healer telling healers to DPS. So no, not relevant. “It’s not a hard concept” lol.
