It all started during dragonflight. It was season 3, ironically a very similar season to this one. Timers were pretty generous, much like they are now, but that wasn’t the problem. A trend started where incoming damage profiles were very spikey. Pretty much every healer content creator, and all healers stated how much they disliked this. Blizzard stated at least half a dozen times that they were going to fix this.
I wasn’t going to get the expansion. I’ve quit pretty early every season for the same reason. But blizz specifically said they were addressing it, and I took the bait again. It’s actually worse this season than ever because now tanks are paper on top of it. In any given pull, I’m healing all five people from 15pct back to full about a half a dozen times in a half a dozen globals. It’s whack a mole.
The game was most fun when the timer was the obstacle, not getting one shot or chunked to death.
This is my first time doing M+, so I don’t really have a frame of reference, but with that said… it does feel spikey. I’m only up to 6’s and just in my last run of SoTT, I spiked at ~170K HPS playing whack a mole with health bars.
I genuinely don’t get how people are doing like..19’s. It must just be a case of players at lower key levels don’t know what they are doing, taking a ton of unnecessary damage, because if it wasn’t and this type of damage was the norm, nobody would be alive ever at those higher levels.
Ask to do nothing but heal, be surprised when there’s something to heal. I’d have some sympathy but I actually liked interrupting and doing damage in the downtime so ya’ll brought this upon yourselves.
It was never me, I can assure you of that. Peak for me was shadowlands or even s2 of dragonflight. Tanks had to figure out ways to pull bigger to beat timers. A healer could actually influence this with his damage. There were some heal checks, but they weren’t constant. The mark of skill expression for healers was damage.
Funnily, as a mist weaver main (for healing) there are wayyy too many healers rn. Our guild sits healers from raid every week, and M+s are easier to get into as dps. I’m ilvl 260+ with 2600io and I get rejected from 6s
No shade across the board, but I only heal 60k hps in most of my 10s because my tank/dps know what they are doing. When I pug a 6, my overall is closer to 90k.
i never said it was hard or anything just scary to randomly see people’s hp go down like that like a ping pong. it’s fun to go through on other healers but disc is a bit harder ofc but it’s acutally my fave class atm
There are only so many ways healers can be challenged, so usually it’s pure reaction time. Every heal is 50% of a health bar when someone has to be topped up before the next random damage hit. Don’t worry, sometime during Midnight they’ll come back to the “healthbars spend more time floating between 100% and 0!” claim.
And they’ll completely fail to deliver it YET AGAIN. Like every time in the past.
Because a slower pace of healing means there has to be a way to do it wrong, and post-pruning there aren’t enough buttons left to do an incorrect ramp.
There’s no question they will claim to be fixing it pretty much every season, and never actually address it at all. I don’t watch twitch or anything like that anymore, and really barely even watch any wow content on YouTube. But I know that guy Jak has been making long, detailed videos reaching out to blizzard about this for years now.
It’s been all over the place for me, some groups are so smooth and easy, others a struggle. I guess it all depends on the classes in the group, the skill, etc. Plus it can be so up and down from one trash pack to the next, and one boss to the next. I healed a seat of the triumvirate last night, and did a skyreach on my paladin today, and in each we had a couple wipes on the first few trash packs, but then cleared everything else without issue. Like tank was easy to heal for the rest of it. I know those trash packs are killer, but it’s still weird to have such variance.
There’s no question that the dungeons are grossly unbalanced this season. Windrunner is the most egregious trash on the planet due to insanely overtuned magic debuffs and a poison debuff. Seat hurts, but it’s cool because there’s actually some counterplay with any root or snare removal. Skyreach absolutely trucks lol. Like especially the first hallway there.
I can’t speak for other healers, but I’m loving healing on mw this season! They got rid of most of the jank that mw had in the past and it just feels soooooooo good. Especially with the build that doesn’t take apex talents. Let’s me burst for 70k+ dps and I’m pulling 30k dps overall. Haven’t tried 10s on it yet because I mostly get asked to tank as brew, but I rarely even have to use cds when healing 9s
I feel like my stress as a healer increases exponentially compared to my dps and tank friends lol. Idk what they could even do to change that when you’re dealing with an infinitely scaling system
some of those early seat packs are brutal, we did the same thing my first 10 in there, wiped a couple times to start because you’re pretty much single or double pull with cds, or wiping, at least at the gear levels at the time. Still timed it but we had a vote come up at the very start.
It doesn’t help that nobody was breaking chains, I had no idea I could at the time.
