Realistic fixes for Frost

While I understand that many people who play frost want to see a full rework, the simple fact is that it is not possible at this point in time during a newly released expansion. Blizzard employees seem to be focused on a wide variety of issues and as we know class design is typically not addressed during xpacs. Therefore I wanted to consolidate some of the suggestions that have been made in multiple places and hopefully it will get some attention.

  • Make PoF a 20 second duration again.
  • Buff the primary target damage of HB (possibly 450% instead of 300%).
  • Add Soul Reaper talent and have it do shadowfrost damage (preferably in row 35 and move FSC to 45 as it may make the most sense when compared to UH talent tree).
  • Add FS and FSC to MotFW.
  • Increase the benefit of a single runeforge for 2h through MotFW or allow 2h weapons to hold 2 runeforges.
  • Make Glacial Advance baseline and work in a short range cone.
  • After making adjustments to core abilities and talents please look at the base damage of abilities and their interaction based on DW vs 2h and adjust accordingly (this is where the damage aura comes into play if it brings DW and 2H more in line with each other).

Again these are the things that I have most commonly seen discussed in various posts across multiple websites. These types of changes will definitely not satisfy everyone(or possibly anyone) but through making them it may help the team at Blizzard to “balance” frost through small tweaks to base ability damage. The last thing I believe the majority of the players want to see is another Legions instance where a pretty sizable damage buff aura was thrown out but none of the real problems were addressed and we find ourselves still staring at many of them today.

  • 2h gets 100% proc chance on KM for auto attack crits
  • Razorice passive in MotFW
  • Gathering Storm effect baseline - Replace with Frost Strike cleave while Remorseless Winter is active. Each Frost Strike increases the damage of Gathering Storm by 20% - This is to offset the damage loss in AoE from not using as many Runes.
  • Glacial Advance - Now a manually placed AoE ala DnD that applies 5 stacks of Razorice to all enemies hit, and does worthwhile Frost damage.
  • Rime gives Howling Blast full damage on additional targets
  • Obliteration makes Obliterate always deal Frost damage
  • Frostwyrm’s Fury - Increase damage to initial target by 200% or reduce CD to 1min
  • Merciless Combat (Passive) - Increases Frost damage done to enemies below 35% hp based on crit chance

Mostly fixed. At least until next xpac when the spec can be re-worked for real

Frost should be the high crit build. Don’t need to change much. Make obliterate always crit (it’s called obliterate for gods sake), pillar of frost can enhance/increase frost damage. BAM! fixed and you’re welcome.

What about replacing one of the o so many late worthless talents with something like:

Ice Soul blades: summon 2 replicas of your currently equiped Main hand. The soul blades are infused with razorice, and soul blades auto atacks behave and trigger class on hit efects.

There.

(it makes the diferente from 2 vs 1 auto atacks to something like 4 vs 3. the auto razor ice runeforge will also open up more uses for DW runeforge, and will fix 2h.

Plus it fits the class fantasy… some NPC DKs have this already… so its in the game.

And this is the Floating swords Xp… so DO IT BLIZZARD.

(sorry for me crappy english)

make obliterate 100% frost damage all the time with KM guaranteeing a crit.
adjust frost scythe to new obliterate values so that its damage on 3 or more targets then an obliterate.
larger AoE on glacial advance to make it not janky AF to use.

The spec just needs more damage outside of the pillar window in both pve and pvp. having master only work some of the time for one of the primary damage skills and crit giving such low percentage per point spent is dumb. Just the obliterate change would bring frost inline with unholy.

I dont think we want cristalline swords back seeing how useless and bland it was in legion.

I disagree with making oblit just another frost dmg ability.
That effectively makes mastery just a blanket buff your dmg by X% which is basically what vers does already.

Personally i like mechanics that enourage you to better master your abilities.
For example how about Gathering storm as a baseline passive and then RW gives a dmg buff to oblit and FS (either/or) based on how long you kept it going once it expires, or while it lasts.
Also Icy Talons should be baseline, it’s a mechanic that rewards awareness but is terrible as a talent so its wasted.

If we are being honest with “realistic” then most likely what blizz will do for Frost are various aura buffs or more “2% increased damage buff” as the expansion goes on. For actual, substantial changes you most likely would have to wait for the next expansion alpha/beta phase.

Yep.

Not touching frost at all until then. It needs abilities readjusted, redistributed as well as having abilities redesigned from how they function now AND replaced.

Make Pillar 45 second CD, 15 sec duration again.

1 min CD doesn’t even line up with Empower Runic anymore and it defeats the whole purpose.

frost strike to cleave in DnD!

death and decay or death’s due?

It is likely that they will not touch PoF anytime soon. So 12 sec duration with 1 minute cooldown is all what we’re going to get. In fact, the reason why I am one of the very few Dks that is using Icecap that stacks Crit in PvE content is to align my PoF with Death’s Due, making my Obliterates generate 4% strength per use when both of them active.

Here is what I want to see for Frost in the most simplest of terms:

  • Obliterate slightly more damage.
  • Revise Lv 35 talent into an execute of the player’s choice: MC, Shadowfrost SR or Reworked Avalanche. Making FScy baseline and Frozen Pulse baseline with different bonuses for both weapon choices.
  • MotFW includes FS and FScy and try to streamline it with DW such as its interaction with Death’s Due.

These three changes should be sufficient as for now, anything more is unlikely. I could write an entire post of what I really would do if I was to rework Frost.

for soul reaper, the gain runic corruption part will have to be reworked. but an extra ability as an execute, and shadowfrost damage would be nice.

So instead of RC, make it haste!

Just like old times!

I’d like army of the damned to be baseline all DK again.

Other than that oblit needs more damage because outside of KM it hits like a wet noodle.

Permanent pet would also be cool.

should be both. death’s due is basically a better DnD with extra str

You cant buff Obliterate damage outside of KM procs without also increasing Obliterate damage in KM procs. They are tied together. So if the top end is in an ok spot but the bottom end isnt, there isnt much you can do about it. You can buff Obliterate damage but to keep the top end of the ability to be roughly where it is you would have to nerf mastery which then has an impact on the rest of the kit.

For there to be both weapons, and you kind of have to look at it that way, the spec needs a redesign. You cant just look at what the spec needs without thinking about what that buff or nerf would do to the other weapon. They arent completely separate, and they arent completely the same.

Thats the big problem here.

I’d rather see frost as the tank spec tbh, maybe not a popular view.

Otherwise I’d like chillstreak removed, it’s not a bad skill but it makes us on paper look way higher damage then we are in practice and the higher you climb the less likely you can put it to max usage. If we have to keep it, drop FS in the tree and put this there because it’ll be more valuable in the pve lineup.

Take razor ice rune out and put razor ice on RW, or make GA baseline remove cooldown and decrease damage.

My issue with the balance team, stop making things dk baseline because now you’re going to get confused when you have to look at 12 excel spreadsheets to see everything that’s going on within one class.

Also just for all of the specs, for the weirdos that chose night fae - DND should be stuck on them not on the ground, as in follow them around for the duration. sometimes the tank has to move and boy did your ability just go right in the toilet when that happens.

Not sold on the rest but Death’s due as an aura around you does make much more sense when you actually depend on that ability this much.
Note that i said death’s due and not DnD.
I’d also like for them to normalize the str stack between DW and 2h.
