You started out talking about Classic (the second word in your post), so it seems the topic to me. You went on to make predictions that it’s a dead end, and that we don’t really want what we want (so close to “you think you do, but you don’t”, lol).
I’ve spent over a decade playing WOW under cap. I’m pretty sure It’s not a dead end for me, not yet. Even less likely now, so I wonder why you took your position. The most obvious is that assuming my reality makes you feel better, hence the insecurity comment, thought I did state I didn’t know.
i’ve played WoW since the vanilla days and i can honestly say that i’m having WAY MORE FUN leveling and enjoying the classic world, then i ever have in retail.
I’m level 10 now, and i’m dreaming of the day i can get a 2handed mace/axe from deadmines. it’s going to be glorious! – i dont get this feeling at all when playing retail. it’s DING 120. DING max-gear in 1 week. ZZZZzzzzz.
The content phases of Classic will keep the lights on for a few years. And I’ll wager the less hardcore raiding guilds will take their time getting through Naxx. Most people can’t make it through an expansion without quitting or taking substantial breaks, so I’m not sure why this “brick wall” is somehow more profound than retail.
As someone intending to play both in parallel, I think the static-ness of Classic is an awesome thing. My Classic character is a long-long-term project that I can work on as I please. Maybe he’ll get there, maybe not, but he’s always there to work on.
It’s a nice change of pace from the endless hamster wheel that modern WoW can be at times… Yes, I enjoy modern WoW, but there is something to be said about the churn of features constantly being dropped and added and the Big Reset Button being pressed periodically being fatiguing at times.
6 phases. the contents of the entire classic experience will be released periodically throughout its existance. phast 1 introduces multin core and stuff. phase 2 introducing some other little thingies… phase 3 introduces black wing lair (tier2) and the list goes on
i also presume it’s the different ‘house rules’ that affect the experience
like if you play Monopoly by the official rulebook versus the way i played it with my siblings/cousins having a Free Parking Jackpot and the banker never doing auctions
If it’s successful enough, they’ll likely spin up TBC and WotLK servers down the road. I just think the premise of Classic being a static dead-end is fundamentally incorrect.
We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. At this point that’s two years out at minimum, maybe longer if we’re talking about most guilds getting Naxx on farm status.
For now people are having fun, and that’s all that matters.
What discussion? You posted an opinion piece on why you like retail-- there’s no discussion to be had. Unless you’re looking for players to change your mind? So it’s either one or the other-- You want to justify why you like retail or you’re trolling looking for upvotes…
Personally, I think that’s the best way to play the game.
I started in Vanilla and made many memories. Won’t play classic now because I’ve been there and done that but I think if you’re just starting in WoW, Vanilla is an enchanting period of time, especially on PvP servers.
STV, duskwood, barrens, TM vs SS, etc. You just can’t recreate that without the slow lvling process that vanilla has.
In retail, it’s logical to rush to max level because it’s quick so people tend to not spend their time wasting it on WPvP.
In Vanilla, it took so long to level that rushing to it would burn you out so you just smelled the roses on the way.
As cool as reliving all of the old expansions would be, I think it is a bad idea. Have retail for the modern crowd and Classic for the old school crowd and keep it that way.
Additional WoW versions would just split up the playerbase and be aggravating. I don’t want to have to maintain 7 different characters to play with my friends who decide they all like a different expansion best.
