He’s not the one whose actually making all the decisions of the game’s direction. He’s just in charge of overseeing and making sure everyone does their part. Decisions in the direction WoW goes, what systems are implimented, etc are a group effort done at developer and storywriter meetings and roundtables where everyone pitches ideas or throws darts at a board to see which ones stick and overall they think would work, be best, etc, however much like with anything else in life, what sounds good in the moment or on paper, doesn’t always work out when actually executed and created…

If you listen to his responses in the past Q&As, it’s obvious he’s still invested in the game as he has shown awareness of issues, quirks, and ongoings in the world of warcraft through his little side remarks and off-topic banter, etc.
