Timegating is only an issue if the content isn’t great and doesn’t provide value over the time. If people aren’t having fun and trying to get through it as fast as possible the problem is either the player or the content. I play with my wife and she is the slower enjoy the scenery type and I’m the hurry through type, she helps me enjoy the content because i show down with her.
This this this
Timegating isn’t always bad.
It’s bad when what’s there to do feels bare bones.
What “potential?”
And there are like three rewards, so I could honestly care less. lol
You mean after the Duos content was done, finished, shipped in the package of 11.1.5?
Imagine if everybody just waited for six weeks, when everything is unlocked, to start participating, lol. Too many “pick-me” players out there though, unfortunately.
I really don’t understand how you anti timegating people expect there to be a winning solution.
If it wasn’t timegated, people who play this game like a job would be so far ahead of everyone else constantly that nobody playing casually would stand a chance of getting into content over those who simply just have more time to play.
Not only that but you can’t have people speed running through content in a subscription based game and crying that there’s nothing else to do because they managed to get through 100 hours worth of content in 2 weeks of playing
Because it is.
Gating in the old days used to happen more organically. When I think of time gating I am thinking of not being allowed to progress until next week because the developers have decided you don’t get access to it until then. A lot of the old design was either grindy reps to endlessly grind or at worst dailies to do every day and the content basically just released in a consume as you see fit state rather than drip feeding us features.
I wouldn’t hate it if they continued to drip feed us features the way they are doing with HV, dastardly duos, and Delves so people aren’t overwhelmed with features to do all at once, but I don’t think they should be gating the progression of the content like they are after the feature releases.
They’d miss the entire event. Duos is over July 17th. lol
Damn it. Ok, 4 weeks then, lol.
I agree delete warlocks.
Which “old days” are we talking about? Weekly gates have existed for quite a long time now. Legion was one of the worst for this.
Which is ironic, since people keep claiming it was their favorite— and yet they were livid over the gating of Suramar, Argus, hated how the unlocks worked for Artifacts, etc…
What I don’t understand is why everyone seems to treat time gating like it is something new. This has been a part of WOW since it started.
If there was no time gating then they would have delivered the whole expansion in one release at launch and the majority of people would have all the content done and be sitting for 6 months waiting for the next expansion to drop.
So it’s a good thing to design all content to control how the top 1% of players play? Who are actually playing other games anyway when there’s nothing that feels meaningful for them to do…
Nope. The issue is that after they have announced that “these things are coming in X patch” and X patch arrives, only a few of the patch features are available yet. That’s type 1 timegating. Release date timegating plus later waves of timegating on the same content feels like more timegating, Because it is.
The very old days. I don’t think I can pinpoint when the first time they timegated content, but maybe MoP when they decided to start delaying raid release. I don’t believe Cataclysm or anything prior ever timegated stuff. Beyond raids, only thing I can think of MoP and WoD timegating the legendaries they gave us.
Legion was an overall good expansion with some faults. In regards to timegating the Broken Shore’s questline was absolutely obnoxious to get through. One week’s quest was like “give us some currency…OK SEE YOU NEXT WEEK”
i mean if you count a d
its just the fact that ion said we need to respect players time and then they keep releasing horrible timegating. like unabashed makes no sense timegating.
The problem with arguing that time gating was lesser or non-existent in the past is that you also didn’t get all these small chunks of content between major patches as well.
Cata had Molten Front gated. Wrath had Argent Tournament gated.
Isle of Quel’danas was gated with unlocking buildings.
I cant believe they arent releasing the Last Titan on Tuesday
I just thought of something that some may not realize…
Duos isn’t a piece of patch content. It’s a calendar event. Like Turbulent Timeways.
If people understood what was going on, there would be 90% less complaints.
LOL you’re not wrong.
