Re design Druid class tree - RANT

The druid class tree is the most boring class tree out of all classes i’ve seen so far. I’ve mained feral for years now and i feel this is the most pruned feral has been in years.

Yes we have ‘’ AOE/Pad damage ‘’. Where’s the utility? I don’t see rogues picking garrot and rupture in their class trees. They get blind/shiv on the get go. Meanwhile we spend our points on maim, bonus damage to swipe and ironfur? The fact that primal fury is a talent which is a must for a feral sets a fixed route in the tree. Like when would i ever want to take primal fury as a resto druid or a boomy in pvp? How is that a ‘’ choice ‘’ ?

Also if im fighting a meele cleave or double casters and know im the target. I’m forced to go damage reduction route with 0 utility. Even if i want to go clone, I can’t because i’ll die way too quick. Hell a ret just 1 shot me in 2 seconds even when i went damage reduction route. If im fighting unholy dk/demo/BM hunter i can’t even go mass entanglement route even if i want to as if i pick that route, half my points i’ll never even use. Starsurge? boomie form? Starfire? as a feral? WHY?

Its nice to have typhone or other utility down the path but to get their seems so un worth it. Like to get clone we have to either go boomie route or wild growth route. Explain to me when in arena i would press wild growth or boomie as a feral? You could make an argument for swiftmend being useful, but after they nerfed our self healing to the ground i claim it being redundant.

Our final nodes are so boring as hell. Other classes get major cds or something exciting to impact their rotations. Meanwhile we get a passive extra healing which is barely noticeable given every class has an MS. I can’t do anything to peel my teammates besides stun/root/pump damage. My heals do nothing. Then we have heart of the wild. Its not a bad talent but 5 minute CD? Like its not that special? It also takes you out of your cat form so its a trade between dps and other abilities. not like we’re pumping and going heart of the while meanwhile. And then theres natures vigil…so basically a duplicate of shamans spell but a final node. Did you run out of interesting new spells for druids?

Druids used to have a unique playstyle. You could power shift out of slows, you could kite meeles since you’re squishy or go bear.Bleeds used to hurt a lot. Like how bleeds hurt pre nerfs. Now i can’t outrun a monk to save my life. Or get micro cc’d/slowed every second while trying to shapeshift( with global ) to get away. What even is unique about druids anymore? We have 2 stuns out of which 1 requires cat form and both are in the spec tree. Hell, even our basic spells ( rake,rip ) are in there too as fillers for talent tree nods.

I used to main a feral because if you played feral good enough, you could beat if not all, most classes. Hell you could 1v2 if you were a pro. I could 1v2 in shadowlands given i had clone and ccs and enough burst to be able to. Now if i play rogue i feel like i can control the game and do so much to help my team and put pressure or make plays to win a hard match up. Meanwhile my feral is just a go in, don’t die and spread bleeds like playstyle.

Maybe i’m missing something but the druid tree really sucks. Even the class itself lost its identity. We’re not good at off healing, or peeling, or running away from most classes or making plays or ccing or controlling or anything. Druids were always diverse but never best at a particular thing. Now we’re neither diverse nor best at anything.

Oh and don’t even get me started on resto druids…I used to love healing arenas. Go there put hots up. get in the fight to stun up or put bleeds then run away. Passive aggressive playstyle. Watching Kubzy back in BFA really made me love how well he portrayed a resto druid. Guess what they play like now? Stand back 40 yards and dare not enter the fight. Pray they don’t come target you and just hope you don’t oom before you win the match. Keep hots up and afk. OH! and if they have dispel? GL! BORING! resto shaman has more utility than that. Hell even monks have chain ccs and can get in aggressive for an aoe stun. Paladins and priests can do damage and push in to make game making cc plays. Like the double fear from absterge. Then you see resto druids in AWC going in to get a bash and getting punished and lose because you should never do that as a resto druid. Even the casters admitted that was a mistake. WTF? WHY did you make resto playstyle like this? We don’t even have rake stun baseline.

The one time feral was OP for a bit ( imo half the damage was just padding ) got nerfed. Meanwhile assa rogue keep pumping but thats all good. Idc if assa is OP, make druids fun again. And yes i mean FUN, idc if they are OP or not. Atleast make me appreciate what i have in my class. Not miss what i used to have which now i can’t get unless i compromise major things for it.

I like DF, much better than Shadowlands. Overall im happy with the expansion and the constant updates to classes and balancing. I Hope you can keep it up and make improvements and understand where I’m coming from.

Yeah the druid tree remains awful.

A lot of the utility in it (e.g. Hibernate, Cyclone, Rake stun, Soothe) should be baseline. Cyclone is too difficult to pick up for Feral, and no one in their right mind can ever take Hibernate despite it being a useful punishing CC.

Druids were once meant to have a HoT class fantasy, but no one but Resto can have meaningful HoTs with the current tree. Rejuvenation does almost literally nothing. I’ve suggested to replace Wild Growth node with Cenarion Ward.

That’s not true. I mostly complain about Warlocks.

But, I complain about anything that is wildly skewed in terms of game balance and has been for the better part of the game’s life cycle. I understand ‘beginner friendly’ classes like warlock/hunter/druid should have a low skill floor - but the output for a ceiling is too wide.

Overall I think the big problem for me is the complete change of identity for feral.

It’s gone from strong single target damage, with good heals and utility playing a very set up style. Now it’s just run in, AoE everyone and kill through pressure.

Which is a complete 180 from SL and before.

I agree after making a Druid that the Druid class tree is very boring.

feral is in the dumpster where blizzard likes them…
the tree is terrible, the spec is terrible… they don’t care
it is what it is… assa rogue is feral on steroids… warriors are better, dh is better, dk is better…pally is about to be buffed into orbit… only thing that can complain more is enhance… blizz also doesn’t give two poops about that spec either…

Actual propaganda.

I see 5 ferals in the top 100 of the 3v3 bracket. I see 10 rogues. I see 7 dh’s, I see 8 ww monks etc. A couple of these ferals haven’t changed rating for a while, guessing that two week period where feral was over tuned is when they climbed and have been sitting for a while (low pvp item levels on several of these players).

Solo q is even worse… 3 in the top 100, while there is 11 rogues, 5 hunters, 10 dh’s, 9 ww’s, and 12 warriors

If you look at the 1800+ rating stats… Feral is 12th most represented spec in 2s and 15th in solos. Overshadowed by rogues, warriors, dk’s, monks, dh’s rets, destro warlocks, ele shamans, demo locks, spriest etc. Perhaps dumpster isn’t the right term… more like, bottom middle of the pack.

Pets and “I CAN BE EVERYTHING DAD I CAN DO ALL THE THINGS!” kiddy-classes are the beginner friendlies.

There was some iota of talent initially about blizzard kiting… before people found out you could just bounce mobs on the ledges of ZF/Mara/BRD.
