That doesn’t by nature make them more dedicated. You can’t call someone less dedicated simply because reality dictates that they have to have a home, food, and the electric/internet to play. Reality trumps dedication, particularly in gaming, every time. Someone who is lazy and lives in their parents basement, mooching groceries, is just in a different reality of their ability to survive. Continuing to live such a sad existence isn’t necessarily the result of dedication. In this case their time commitment is nothing more than a lack of responsibilities. That does not equate to a higher level of dedication OR emotional investment. It certainly does not equate to being more skilled either.
I literally stopped pvping for the fact that the system was changed to this entitled bs that is in retail.
The old system was the only good one the game has had.
Yep it let me spot people with no lives and taunt them for it.
Old system just rewarded people for play hours. Not for doing well.
BC was where it was at. Arena was skill based.
If, by “skil”, you mean “flavor of the month”, possibly.
stop with the making everything inclusive. put in the work or f off to retail imo
If by “everything” you meant to say that you wanted to single out and specifically target PvP players by making PvP gearing more exclusive than PvE for no reason (which currently don’t even give gear on par with PvE) im going to have to disagree.
Being able to get R14 gear would only increase the lifespan of the game for PvP’rs (=those who don’t PvE) and result in an increased amount of subscription and money for Blizzard.
Giving improvements to PvP players would not be away from the game, it would only improve the game for those who enjoy PvP.
Changes should be done with Vanilla’s best interests in mind, and not at the behest of a whimsical “tourist” retailgoer who likely never played Vanilla originally or during a pserver and as such as no clue what he is talking about, nor is capable of objectively assessing all areas of the game.
Or he did and is a PvE elitist and simply does not want PvP players to enjoy the game too. Lack of sympathy towards players that enjoy a different aspects of the game doesn’t help your point either. Devs need to concider all players and not just PvE.
But well, at least you tried.
Arena’s are exactly what RUINED WoW PvP. Also, MMORPG’s are about grinding, and that’s what keeps people playing.
Grinding wasn’t the problem. Having to grind large amounts of time consecutively, with no breaks, instead of working slowly towards it at your own pace, like PvE, was(as well as having your progress tied to other players).
This meant that 99.9% of PvP’rs, could never hope to reach R14, which defeated the entire purpose of the honor system - an alternative way to gear for people who PvP.
That’s of course a problem, because if people have nothing to strive for, they will just quit.
we get it, you want to play retail. that’s cool, it’s still online, you can actually play it right now

Being able to get R14 gear would only increase the lifespan of the game for PvP’rs (=those who don’t PvE) and result in an increased amount of subscription and money for Blizzard.
I’ve said a few times that I’m surprised nobody brought up the ranking system and wanted it changed…but here we are.
I know it’s just a game but let’s use an irl example. Me and you both went to an Ivy League School. Both graduated(hit 60) both paid the same amount(15$/mo). Now I’ve been a teacher at a University(bg’s) for 10years and have tenure(rank 14). Would you think it a valid argument to come in after weeks of working at my University(BGs) to ask for tenure(Rank 14) just because we both paid the same price and graduated from the same school wven though I’ve been working for 10 years and you just got here?
This is not being changed. It was a beautiful and fun system. Anyone who wanted to could understand exactly how it worked. It brought excitement to the game. Anyone could gain rank - and some very nice pieces of kit. You could even get some epic pieces by gradually gaining rep. Very few will get the epic set pieces from the highest ranks. It feels great.
I will never get beyond rank 10 in Classic. Yet, all I do is PVP. It gives me great pleasure. My blue pieces, believe it or not, are competitive in PVP. A character played very well, with some skill, can beat toons with better gear.
What makes all this fair, is that if I want better gear yet I won’t or can’t play for the highest ranks, I can go into dungeons and raids and acquire that stuff JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE. It is very fair.
yep i cant wait for it.
Beats being a rank 14 hunter that loses to fresh 60 rogues in greens because all they did was play 16 hour a day and run about clicking people and spamming 123.
Effort doesnt equal reward. Success should equal reward. Im not saying i should get epics for logging on like legion allowed. Totally misunderstood me.
I also have said in this thread that i wouldnt change it in classic. Thw scope of vanilla doesnt allow for a better system.
How dare they make hard to achieve goals! Who do they think they are?!
If only there was a game that existed that just hands you everything you could ever want or need without any true effort. . . .oh wait! BFA is that way =====>
ok well im currently r13 23% I can say that pushing rank 14 takes a lot of time and dedication,I work 20hrs a week and can still pump the hours required and it DOES take skils to reach it ,no bot can reach the honor cap if you get a good team and all perform and pop consumes bot could afk farm 24/7 and still not hit those caps
If you got any question ill be plleased to answer them
The ranking system in vanilla has always been about time, never about skill. Classic takes longer to rank up in my experience. I don’t remember playing as much as I do in vanilla than I do currently in classic. But I’m almost done with the grind.
Even something like Warhammer Online was a time based sink to get to Renown Rank 80 at launch. I never got to 80, but unlike WoW it didn’t have diminishing returns.
No there is some skill - social skill. I shouldnt even call it skill. Competence is more like it. If everyone could get into a good premade. There would be far less complaints.
The way the honor system affected the game in phase 2, the meta that has started in BGs where casual players no longer have a place to enjoy a little rivalry…
The rank 14 grind has destroyed this game.

I know no one wants changes in classic but will rank 14 forever be only obtainable by people who have no jobs/life maybe a sweaty twitch streamer?
Maybe not.
It;s gonna be rough for awhile cuz of scarcity, there has only been one week in all of classic where we could even have a R14, every week from here on out the sweatiest players will start dropping off, and replacing them with the next most sweaty tier.
Eventually this is gonna cycle through most of the people who push insane hard and it will balance out to a dedicated, but doable commitment… hopefully.
If you do want to rank on limited play time, I recommend getting active in your honor grinding community for your server. There is a lot you can do to help yourself rank when you work with others, but I would temper expectations on the grind until at least the R14 weaps aren’t the best in the game.
This was true even in Vanilla when I did it in high school. This is why I was content to hit rank 10 and retire back in the day. A nice, blue set of armor as a player which hated raiding.
Grand Marshal was always something obscenely difficult to achieve if you spent any time away from the computer. It should not be changed. This was Vanilla.
