Raising realm caps - unsustainable

While we are able to fit several times more players on a single realm in 2019 than was the case in 2006, we are not going to raise that cap any further, even though we have the technical capacity to do so. Raising realm caps would simply forestall the problem, letting more players in at launch but creating an unsustainable situation down the line, with severe queues when we turn off layering permanently before Phase 2 of our content unlock plan.

Lol. Blizzard. Seriously? You have to do better than that. Realm caps are nothing but configurations for you. Heck, you probably have capacity to avoid queues altogether. You’re on the cloud. You re-wrote Classic to use Retail services. It scales. And as much as you want to use the term layering, it’s really nothing but sharding under the covers.

The kind of drivel i just read is the same garbage I would tell the businesses, when at the end of the day it’s nothing but not wanting to spend the money.

Seriously. It’s no harder then changing some numbers on your cloud of choice console and hitting submit button. Voila. It’s clear that you wanted to spend as little as possible on Classic from the beginning. Fine. But the way you tried to spin this was just insulting.

You are greatly simplifying a complex problem. You can’t simply scale up layers for a server to handle unlimited demand because those layers have to go away in Phase 2. At that point, you have a hard limit on the number of players that should exist concurrently on a single server. The gameworld was designed to handle up to 3000.

This right here is the answer, you could have 300000 on the server potentially, but the game itself is only designed to handle about 3k, meaning it would screw with everything.

I don’t get this. They literally said it is technically possible for them to raise the caps.

This definitely sounds like the reason. You can have 3k people on a server at one time and have a stable experience…or 300000 people on a server and have serious game play problems.

Op is clearly senior management!

They gotta pump up those numbers! Those are rookie numbers!!!

The only way to do this would be to cement layering as a permanent system, no one wants this.

Or when layers are turned off open new servers and offer free transfers out.

They have layering so that we can enjoy Classic as it is meant to be played with the insurance of stable realm population; meaning the realms will have players playing after 3 years no matter what.

For Blizzard there is no magic bullet solution so we will just have to deal with server Q’s to maintain the authentic VANILLA experience.
