I opened a GM ticket and got a resolution! The error is based on my computer’s end, oddly!
After digging into this issue a bit, we’ve received similar reports of this particular issue happening. It has been found that the cause of this issue is related to corrupted user interface files in your game client. In order to ensure that corrupted UI files do not hinder your gameplay experience, I suggest doing a full UI reset.
You may have received these instructions before as it is a common solution to a number of in-game problems, especially around patch time. The first thing I would do is make sure all addons are up-to-date, and delete any you no longer use. By clearing out these files and at least moving the addons (you don’t have to get rid of them all together), we can test the default game client and you can then replace your addons one at a time to determine which one might be causing the problem.
**NOTE - If you have macros saved specifically to a character, this will wipe them. To preserve macros, save them under “general” instead of character specific for the time being.
Resetting your UI to default settings can resolve various display and interface issues. Before performing these steps, please temporarily uninstall any addon management software you are using. Addon managers will re-sync the data cleared by these steps.
- Completely exit World of Warcraft.
- Uninstall any addon managers to make sure they don’t re-add your removed addons.
- In the Blizzard Battle .net desktop application, click Options and select Show in Explorer (Windows®) or Reveal in Finder (Mac®).
- Open the World of Warcraft® folder.
- Open the retail folder.
- Rename the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders to CacheOld, InterfaceOld, and WTFOld.
- Re-launch World of Warcraft so the changes can take effect.
If you have any trouble performing the UI reset, you can find more detailed instructions on our support site. (deleted links) type “UI reset” in the search box, and click on “Common Display Issues”.
By this logic, if you are NEVER experiencing weather effects, this might help you as well!
