Raiding Expectations for the Holiday Season

Delaying the raid until the new year makes a lot of sense but delaying the patch content does not. The holiday stuff will be completed by most in a week I guess and then it’s just doing the same old stuff over and over again until new content arrives.

I’d rather it be sooner then later. Why has the patch cycle been so bad this xpac…

Could you clarify: Is 8.3 expected to launch in 2019 with the raid opening in early 2020, or will 8.3 not launch until after the anniversary event ends in early January?

I think we all expected the raid in the new year so there is no surprise there but it is certainly surprising that you are delaying the whole patch until the new year. Does this mean that we’re looking at a late January/ early February raid tier?

Also why delay the whole patch until the new year and why not just delay the raid like it has happened every other patch over the holiday season?

Sounds good to me as well.

I hope you all take the feedback on the corruption gear seriously and decide not to implement it. I will not take anyone on runs that have corruption gear because I don’t want even the chance it will cause raids or M+ runs to wipe.

I don’t care if the ilvl is 20 below what corruption gives, I will not take them.

I am cool with the 8.3 delay. In return though can we get an extension of the anniversary event in return?

8.3 does not have much content anyway, not even a new zone. So it really makes no difference if they release it late december or early january.

Please reconsider just release 8.3 this or next month and then the new raid after the holidays??? like what was done for 8.2 ect

Except it’s not a delay, this stuff just started going on the PTR a couple weeks ago. All they’re doing is going public with their timetable, which is much appreciated rather than keep everyone in the dark.

Would rather them take their time and make sure it’s done well than rush it out and have mistakes. Also I’m sure most guilds (mine included) would rather not worry about raiding over the holidays.

either way doesn’t really matter. I think you see the point I was trying to make though.

They are stretching things out here because they know Shadowlands will barely make it inside 2020 as it is, and there is going to be a huge content drought.
Blizzard has been such a huge disappointment factory lately.
On the bright side, this cements in place that we are stuck with bfa for a whole year yet. So it’s time to move on to other games. None of my friends have any intention of returning before 9.0 anyways.

It feels like that MoP to WoD content drought all over again…

Hear me out: What if you released the non-raid stuff (allied races, etc) before the holidays so that people who have time off from work have time to play around with them, then release the raid early 2020 like you said? It would essentially be like what you do at the launch of an expansion.

What we’re seeing here is the disparity between the people who dive into the game, and the people who barely scratch the surface.

For people who raid or do higher M+ or whatever, there’s lots of stuff to do in the game. And since Blizzard shifted to a “seasonal” model, there are time constrants for people to do things (seasonal M+ and PvP achievements, AOTC/CE, etc.).

If anybody thinks there’s nothing to do, or there’s a content drought, I would suggest going for at least Ahead of the Curve in Eternal Palace, or Keystone Conqueror for this M+ season. Even if you think Cutting Edge or Keystone Master (the more difficult achievements) are outside your reach, you should at least be able to do the Heroic/M+10 versions.

However, if all you want to do is the easy and fast content, you’re perpetually going to be looking for things to do. WoW simply has too much going on for you to expect Blizzard to crank out a constant stream of quick and easy stuff to keep you endlessly entertained.

The only alternative is to go back to an older system like Burning Crusade, which didn’t have seasons and DID allow players to work through the content at their own pace, because doing each tier of content was required to get to the next tier. If you wanted to raid Black Temple, you needed to gear up through Tempest Keep and Serpentshrine Cavern, and if you wanted to do Tempest Keep and Serpentshrine Cavern, you needed to do Karazhan and Gruul’s Lair, and so on. Nor were there constant catch-up mechanisms, you had to do the content or you didn’t see the new content. And while we could go back to such a system, I think a lot of the people who only want to play surface-level WoW would like that even less.

Then the same people would be complaining in February that they had nothing to do, instead of complaining in May.

Visions of N’Zoth = patch name
Ny’alotha = raid name

Both are coming in early 2020.

No, it would be people complaining in late December of having nothing to do then complaining again late February (since my idea would only be releasing non-raid stuff a couple weeks earlier) instead of complaining earlier February.

This is great news. It especially should mean they can make an (unusually) earnest effort at class balance leading up to the patch. For those specs that have gotten little to no attention throughout BFA.

Sucks. I understand waiting on releasing the raid but now I’ve got no reason to log in for 2+ months. With Shadowlands so TBD and 8.3 being late this expansion has become “yeah this is bad, and here’s the content drought.”

Two things here.

  1. Only a minuscule part of the player base completes this content. Nearly everyone that plays wow do not raid at all. Evidenced by Blizzard saying exactly this. Barely scratching the surface is how nearly all wow players play. Content cadence needs to keep pace with how the majority of players play the game, not the .001%.

  2. They are remaking the wheel in shadowlands. Why? Because the current state of BFA is abysmal. Why on earth would we want a year more of the trash heap that the current expansion is? Ap grind and essences … gag
