Is there a refund timer still showing on that piece of plate armor? If so, then it won’t enter your collections for other characters until that refund timer is gone.
Even though Hunters cannot equip plate, if you attempted to equip it - then it should still teach the appearance for plate wearers. You would have seen a notification in your chat box if the appearance was learned.
