I see most go Undead/NE for WotF. Is there a case for going High Mountain Tauren for the damage reduction ? or is HMT only a good pick for melee ?

human/undead/night elf/void elf are the only really good options. Avoid CC is king followed by having some better mobility because priest’s isn’t great.
Bullrush and mountaineer are beneficial but i don’t think that makes them ideal. NE elf shadowmeld is so damn good and useful its hard to pass up
I don’t think playing any race will make or break you, but there will be instances of “damn i wish i had this ability rn”
If electric shock pvp item is still a thing in midnight I recommend Dracthyr for the Glide racial to counter the knock backs in reg BGs and Epics; I am basically immune to the big knock backs on my priest because of it. Also extra mastery is also great for all priest specs, and a small knock back with Wing Buffet can be nice for interrupts or very well placed knock offs.
The problem with that is that then you have to be a lizard

No you don’t; you can permanently stay in Visage form for any class that isn’t Evoker. The only exception to that, for some strange reason, is if you play merc mode.
