I mean, if layering tech improves the number of people a server can handle from 5,000 to 10,000 concurrent players that’s nice. But, again, Asmongold and other streamers probably brought around 20,000 people to the server. And it’s probably an extreme underestimate.

Ackshually… Servers are physical.
Pretty sure they’re making sure the servers are population balanced as well as faction balanced.
Sure, they increased server capacity for Classic Era realms. How does that effect the regulating of incoming players into a starting zone? The cap may be 15,000 plus players, but is there a mechanism that knows there are 4500 players in the starting zones and the queue slows down loading in players because those zones are going to get over loaded? Does it wait for players to disperse before adding in more players into what would be a few congested zones?
I think they specifically mentioned the mechanic of player zone dispersal in relation to queues and server population.
I don’t think they lied, I think your understanding of the complexity is at fault.
It would not surprise me that they are getting DDosed right now…
brain dead take
There is nothing to balance since there is nowhere else to go
Why only ONE normal server?? I cannot get into the servers because they are FULL.
No, whats at fault is my hope that Blizzard with all their piles of money would have figured this out. The tech is there, they just aren’t using it properly for this situation.
lmao. I don’t think you know what that phrase means. It’s not “instant gratification” to want to not wait in a queue and do actually nothing. Some people have responsibilities.
Their have problems with Layers spooling up.
This is possibly true, however I pay a monthly subscription to play a game not sit in a queue because the developer only affronted a small amount of servers at launch after literally hyping everyone for the past month or two
I doubt a quarter of a million people care about season of discovery, Id say like 10-15k maybe. You trying to make it sound more popular than it actually is.
So they should make a post or something so I can go krank out some milk while I wait.
I haven’t even been able to create a character, what does faction balance have to do with being able to log in?
Overestimated their server capabilities, Vastly underestimated interest in SoD.
I wish I was surprised
At a glance there’s over a half million people watching SOD streams on Twitch alone.
Apparently the actual problem is that Blizzard’s layer tech isn’t working correctly and isn’t spinning up new layers correctly but saying that a quarter of a million people are trying to play SOD right now is not a stretch.
Pretty sure that’s on Twitter
well, while you play in the queue simulator, think about it, once you will log in, you will have fun trying to find quest mobs because nobody activated layers
The whole point of scaling is exactly this. You expand your infrastructure when in demand and remove it when it’s not in demand. That’s the whole point of using an autoscaling infrastructure. You only pay for what you need, when you need it. There are also highways that allow exactly this for traffic. They are able to widen/narrow lanes by moving barriers.
