I pick let flying be purchasable with gold at max level.
Pathfinder was just our punishment for wanting flying back. Originally ion had no plans to add flying into WOD.
Love how they put renown to gatekeep good ol flying. Nice.

Pretty much it s if we want to fly we have to do Pathfinder (patch 9.0 and parts of 9.1) then also purchase flying .
I’m a bit confused - where does it say you have to purchase flying? All I can see is that you have to complete up to Renown level 44, to be able to do up to a certain section of the covenant campaign, and upon completing that you receive the “Memories of Sunless Skies”. So as I say, Im a bit confused.
Edit: Wait, I see it now. I think that means that characters below 60 that don’t have the highest level of flying already have to buy it to fly.
You have to complete up to chapter 12 of the covenant campaign, and reach renown 44, which isn’t achievable until the second week. That’s literally pathfinder.
It wasn’t Ion’s call during WoD to add or remove flight. Blame the right person.
People on GD always want to blame the wrong person for nonsense. Hilarious.
Pathfinder is “grind a bunch of rep for weeks upon weeks”. It’s not the same. I’ll give you the fact it’s more complicated than hitting max level cap and paying, but still, this is a step in the right direction at the very least.

None of it is speculation, Blizzard has said in multiple interviews that flying is going to be an account wide unlock, get it on one character and then it is available for all (accountwide, same as normal pathfinder) and that it would be unlocked soley by doing the 9.1 shadowlands renown quests.
WoWhead article:
Account-wide item given from the renown quest:
Video of exactly how its done (including it not being a ‘purchase a riding skill’):
That’s not what it says at all, unless you’re trying to say players can’t buy max flying currently.
It’s very clear what Blizzard is saying:
" This consumable item allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones!"
The consumable item will allow you to purchase the riding skill that is required to fly in Shadowlands. It’s quite clearly stating that there’s a separate riding skill that you can’t purchase without using that consumable.
Yes, it is a bit confusing. They have previously said that once you open flight in Shadowlands, it will be account wide. And this sentence seems to be saying that isn’t the case. It appears to be an item that unlocks the ability to learn to fly, but actually learning to fly may well be a separate cost per character.
It that’s so, I may well quit the game. It would be similar to what they did with water walking. You got it on certain characters but every other character had to go and buy it.
It may well be a straw-breaking event for me if that turns out to be the case.
two things IS responsible for: wrath raids. legion.
and to the forums legion was the best expansion since… wrath.
I’d argue that mount equipment is worse than having no flying. What a travesty that’s turned out to be.
“Let’s remove unique abilities from mounts and reintroduce them as ‘equipment’! Players will love it since they’ll also now have the option to have an anti-daze effect on their mounts…that is, until we design mobs to slow/yoink players without labeling the move as a daze >:)”
The question is, what’s the item required and with which currency is the transaction carried out?
You linked a bunch of material that is older than today’s Blizzard announcement. Why?
It doesn’t matter what they do, the same people will always find a reason to complain.
This is GD.

That’s because we’re waiting to get flying still. The issue isn’t pathfinder it’s the patch timelock. If flying was available day 1 at max level for a price then sure, but it isn’t it’s still locked behind patches, and 9.1 is the longest wait we’ve had for a first patch to date.
The item is the Memories of Sunless skies, which you get on whatever first character you want to play through the requirements.
That appears to be like a key, that unlocks an ability to learn flight. However, they seem to be saying “this unlocks it but you need to purchase a license to fly in Shadowlands” without actually saying what currency you need to get.
So that means, for example, if you have a new level 51 coming into Shadowlands, if they make it Anima, that character will have to grind anima to be able to get enough to buy the license to fly. And presumably do that on every single character who wants to fly.
If that’s the case, most of my alts will be dead in the water. I won’t play them at all if they have to gind anima, and I’m not likely to play them if its purchased with any other currency, unless its trivial amounts.
I’m not sure what they are thinking. Perhaps they actually literally want to destroy the game. It’s a good first move.
Some have interpreted it to mean the character will have to have purchased a proficient level of riding skill. If your character has flown in previous expansions, why add that to the mix? I don’t remember them saying that before, at least not in the way they are saying it now.
I think we all understand the Memories of Sunless Skies item. What we don’t know is how long it will take to get to the quest that rewards it and then what else must be purchased and with what, after that fact.
A blue should be able to clarify this easily but you know they never will. I think they enjoy torturing us with flight. I hope the ones doing the torturing all come down with a nasty case of the clap.
Why must Blizzard be so vague with things like this? I’m with you, my alts will never do anything if they don’t get flight free and clear and if it requires a large anima stake to purchase whatever item comes after Memories, I am out. Done for good, might even give away me goodies.
As always, will have to wait and see. Blizz just wants to sucker people into another month of game time to find out, I think that’s why they’re always vague and never spell out EXACTLY what will take place, step by step with clarifications for every single nuance.
I agree. It’s completely lousy to announce this and then not explain whether or not it is account wide or if anything involving account wide has changed.
I’m getting to the end of my patience with these people.
