Question for druid tanks

Oh FFS…

You don’t even try to substantiate your argument, you just assume because I haven’t explicitly calculated the breakpoint for you, I must be wrong. You haven’t brought a single thing to the table other than your supposed experience of achieving 20%+ of your total damage due to Thorns. That’s it.

And then there’s this stupidity. Swipe, without a shred of AP, does a baseline of 109.56 per hit, or 328.68 damage per 1.5, so 219.12 DPS, minus Armor. Let’s assume these non-elite minions smacking you have 4k Armor (some raid bosses have barely more than this). That lowers our Swipe DPS alone to ~126.86 DPS.

You would need a pack of 6 things hitting you at once, never missing, that’d be 189 damage per 1.5, so 126 DPS, minus Resistances. If you assume only 20% total Avoidance, you’d need ~7.5 of these high armored things smacking you just to match Swipe used by a Bear without a single shred of AP. And you think you’re getting 20% of your total damage, which includes autos and Mauls on top of Swipe, from Thorns?

The reality is most of the time you have somewhere between 1-5 things swinging at you, you’re avoiding 20-25% of these hits, you have 500-650 AP at least, you have 18-24% chance to Critically Strike. Even with zero Hit gear, you miss far fewer Swipes than Thorn procs.

Like I said before, I’ll do a run when I get home with lots of 3-4+ pack sizes, see what sort of percentages of uptime on Swipe/Maul/auto we’re looking at, but more importantly how long are the packs even staying alive.

But based upon all of the above, I’m only convinced that you’re very fixated on Thorns being something spectacular without any reasonable justification for doing so.
