If you’re serious about this… I was going to choose Night Fae anyway. From what little i’ve seen (no beta, and have watched very little videos on the subject) I like their aesthetics.
but from a lore standpoint, it just doesn’t make sense. Maldraxus or venthyr make the most sense. heck, Kyrian make more sense. but DKs go against everything natural. they died, then were brought back from death. its not the natural order of things.
but me, personally? this makes me happy that i won’t have to choose between throughput and aesthetics.
Covenants in Shadowlands are all about role playing meaningful choices, which is why most players will just ignore that aspect entirely and pick the Covenant with the abilities and soulbinds that play best with their class/spec.
I don’t really care what covenant I pick as long as it’s good 
However, I will swap classes if I don’t see changes/patch notes for DKs that are meaningful anytime soon so I guess I have to start thinking about the good ones for other classes now lol.
Don’t care. I don’t focus on min/maxing. If I did, I would have switched over to Horde years ago. I play this game for fun, and if people don’t want to let me into their groups then I just learn how to lead an instance and start my own.
My death knight will be going to the Necrolord covenant. They’re aweseome, the aesthetics feel right, and the abilities complement the fantasy perfectly. That’s really all there is to it.

I keep in mind one simple factor.
There’s a thing called Flavor of the Moment.
I sadly suspect that’ll become the thing in SL.
Where the current “Flavor” on what Covenant is best for a given class will not just change, but it will change multiple times over the expansion.

I know nothing about covenant abilities, and I was planning to go with the Fae for the beautiful aesthetics and that sweet sweet plate set.

I wasn’t going Venthyr for any other reason but Vampires.

That’s exactly my take on that.
I’m not worried if they nerf an ability. Everything else just fits what I enjoy despite it.

Blood DK is going to be lit on the red moth mount. Like seriously.
Being someone who hasn’t done any serious competitive raiding since MOP, I will gladly stay a filthy casual and pick whichever covenant fits the theme/playstyle I want for my character and not which gives me the most min/max stats.
