Quest Rewards and Transmog

Quick question, probably stupid, and the answer is no…just want to make sure.

From vanilla to Shadowlands, lets say this character as an example is doing all the chapters in each zone. When I have items to choose from for rewards, regardless of which I choose and assuming I don’t have either appearance, I will get the other reward. Thats my impression of how it works anyway from what Ive seen.

Are there quests that only show rewards usable by you? So if its an all armor reward option with one shoulder piece for each armor type, and I choose Leather…will I get the other 3 even though those other armor types are not usable? Or are those other options hidden from me for some reason?

Similarly with weapon rewards. Will I get the other appearances or will I only get those weapon appearances if I can use them?

I was planning to go through everything zone to collect any stuff I didn’t get as a reward as well as achievements at some point soon and am hoping I only would need to do that once as far as any collectible armor/weapons are concerned instead of having to go through it with different armor classes etc. The process sounds much less appealing if I have to go back through per armor type.

Either way, looking forward to starting this soon and thanks for the feedback on this overly long and poorly worded post!

You will only unlock quest rewards that your character can transmogrify. So, for armor you’ll only unlock the main armor type for your class, and for weapons you will unlock any your character can equip.

There are some cases where there are rewards that your character can transmog, but that aren’t offered as a reward. (Stuff like an Agility dagger on a priest.) In these cases, you will get the transmog unlock even though you were never offered it as a reward.

So, so get all the quest rewards, you will need a minimum of 4 characters, one for each armor type. For weapons, the minimum would be 3: Any Cloth + Warrior + Demon Hunter (stupid warglaives only available to one class.) If you’re looking for one character from each armor type to unlock weapons, then Any Cloth + Demon Hunter + Hunter + Paladin is also an option.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Im using Paladin, Demon Hunter, Warlock and Shaman.

I guess Ill plan do it all 4 times lol.

Be aware that none of those characters can unlock bows/crossbows/guns.

ah so true. Ill swap out the shaman then for the hunter. Good catch and thank you!

I was just thinking about something.

Im doing all of this on Alliance. This would mean I would need to do Horde specific quests for whatever they might have. Or do you know if the rewards are the same aesthetically?

In most cases, both sides end up with most of the same looks unlocked. There are some exceptions. (Of course, why would this be easy?)

There are probably only a handful of item looks that can exclusively be unlocked by one faction. In most cases, there are equivalent quest rewards, or often BoE pieces with the same look. I think the approach I’d take is get the Alliance stuff done, and then use the appearance window’s filters to see what quest based items you’re missing so you can target the specific quests. (Don’t forget that trial characters can unlock appearances!)

Thanks for that advice!

I should probably check exiles reach too. Its a fairly short experience so wouldnt take too long to do.

I have All the Things but it might just be easier to sift through the faction stuff as you suggest to find Horde only stuff.
