Quest mob nameplates always on now?

Since the pre-patch, quest mobs nameplates now show outside of combat and only go away once u satisfy the quests objectives (Kill 8 of enemy X). Is there someway to disable this? I have the setting for plates to only show once combat is initiated. I only want nameplates shown if I target a mob or combat is initiated. I hate having 20+ nameplates for quest mobs on the screen, I just want ONE for my current target or those attacking me. Totally kills the immersion for me. The plates dissapear outside of combat once the quest requirement is met, as I have said.

I use Neat Plates and have tried Platynator but neither one can tackle this issue - it’s something Blizzard did to make quest mobs stand out more - which I understand, but I want it toggled. I’m finding myself now turning off plates completely so I don’t get plate-deluged.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you go into the Game Options menu & type NPC into the search bar, the very 1st option has settings for Quest, Hostile, & Interactive NPC nameplates.

Not sure if it will work exactly as you want because the settings build on each other instead of being individual choices, but there is a ‘None’ option.

Okay I’ll tinker around with this - thanks. It seems to have possibly fixed itself. I had ChatGPT make an add-on to help with it, and I think it actually did!
