For the Alliance quest line “The Missing Diplomat”, the final portion of the quest series which involves confronting Private Hendel in Dustwallow Marsh, the quest cannot be completed because the proper NPCs do not spawn.
Expected Behavior:
Accepting the quest when confronting Private Hendel about his involvement with the Defias to capture a high-ranking alliance diplomat results in him and his two guards becoming aggressive. The player should normally be expected to fight Hendel to around 15-20% health, at which point Jaina Proudmore and Archmage Travosh should appear and “subdue” Hendel - thus completing the quest conditions. The quest is then turned into Archmage Travosh. A final “reward” step is then performed with Jaina Proudmore.
What Actually Happens:
Jaina and Travosh are already present at the start of the quest. Hendel becomes aggressive like expected and even returns to passive at 15-20% like normal. However, because Jaina and Travosh are already present they do not appear and do not automatically activate. Instead Hendel remains in a “dazed” like animation in passive status until he eventually despawns after 30+ minutes. Jaina and Travosh never despawn.
Steps to Reproduce:
This can be observed on many realms and occurs once a player has failed the quest. The quest conditions are never properly reset and no future players can complete it.
The best way to cause the failure is to succeed in damaging Hendel so that he becomes passive, but subsequently dying to his two guards who fail to reset and do not become passive. Jaina and Travosh appear but you “fail” the condition because you die before you can talk to them. As a result, they are left in an invalid state and themselves never despawn.
This has been observed in game directly and anecdotally observed and reported by others across various forums. I have submitted an in-game ticket but figured this venue might get better visibility.
