Other than a pallid tone… not really. Becoming Undead is a step beyond general usage, and again, they’re no longer Necromancers at this point - they’re Death Knights or Liches.
Yeah, if forced to choose, I’d take Necromancer. Although, I think the only viable way to have implemented them would be via Shadowlands Death magic rather than the mundane Azerothian necromancy.
necromancers don’t become death knights.
of the 3 versions of death knights there is, they are always created by external means.
1st generation death knights was created by orc warlocks putting orc souls into fallen human knights
2nd generation death knights was either raised into death knights by arthas, or was fallen paladins that was empowered by arthas directly.
3rd generation was completely rasied by a lich king from the dead.
Necromancers do not become death knights, they may become liches sometimes, but not death knights.
Specifically, Necrolyte (ie. Orcish Necromancer) souls. Why? Read up on my buddy Rakmar: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Rakmar_Sharpfang
Necromancers just couldn’t compete with Warlocks.
They used warlock souls.
The biggest 1st generation death knight was terrogar.
Read up. In short, warlock souls were the pilots, but necromancer souls were the fuel.
2nd, necrolytes don’t use necromancy magic, they used void.
Which is apart of the warlock tool-kit
Which you can read about if you clicked on the necrolyte link in the link you posted.
The unnamed NPCs you fight in WoW are not canon or lore accurate. I assume you have this belief because of quest zones and dungeons. This is a failing of Blizzard in some way, but you must understand that Necromancers are in no way, shape, or form “fodder” in the manner you describe.
Are they some of most basic assets that can be found in a Scourge-Like establishment? Yes. But don’t forget the Cult of the Damned really, really, REALLY messed up Lordaeron by being basic cogs in this machine.
It should also be noted that it has been established that in the Plaguelands, post Wrath, several Undead and Necromancers were warring for control of the remaining Scourge forces. This is also the case in Northrend, as seen in the Slands pre-launch event…and is mentioned in the post story ending of Slands when Bolvar and Darion talk.
The worst Necromancer is a massive threat…for the same reason that Deathknights and even Warlocks are massive threats–the ability to enlist aid for their own gain and purpose.
Also Liches are literally Necromancers
Raise Dead
Summons The Dead (up to 3)
The Necrolyte as seen in the Warcraft: Orcs & Humans Manual.
Range Effect Mana Cost 5 Summons The Dead (up to 3) 79 per Dead The Necrolytes have close ties to the dark forces of Hell, and in consequence study the forbidden arts of the dead. They have gained the ability to bind the bodies of the dead to this domain, creating armies of soulless creatures. With no minds to speak of, they will disdain the use of weapons, seeking to rend the flesh of those they are directed to attack with their bare boned hands.
Yeah, “Raise Dead” is totally not a Necromancer spell. My bad!
**Necrolytes** are a type of [necromancer](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Necromancer) who use the dark energies of the [Void](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Void),[[1]](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Necrolyte#cite_note-1) as it was discovered by [Natalie Seline](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Natalie_Seline). As such, they sometimes overlap with [warlocks](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Warlock) and [shadow priests](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Shadow_priest) in their depiction.

Ahem.
Liches are necromancers, but not Necromancers. Kel’thuzad was a Necromancer who recognized his own inadequacies and sought to become a Lich. There’s a distinction.
First six words, dude.
Tinkers, generally I don’t care about what classes people request because they are just skins. The design really doesn’t even have to matter. Generally speaking a “Mech” tinker spec could function just like Havoc DH just with differently styled abilities aesthetically.
That said, tinkers are as annoying as High Elf requesters honestly. Operates more like a cult than a class request honestly lol. And that’s why I don’t like them.
I think requests like DR are cringe if not even more cringe but they stay in their own lane. They don’t bother everyone and they know how to stick to one thread. Can’t say the same for the tinker community.
Don’t need to go further dude, they use void.
Necromancers uses death magic, a completely different school of magic.
Your confusing the 2 willfully at this point. They even pointed it out further in WoD that the “death” magic shadowmoon valley orcs used was directly tied to void with their worship of the dark star which is btw a dark naaru.
To take it a step further, there is fel necromancy too in some cases.
I see this as completely semantic. The point is, necromancy, regardless of cosmic origin, is used as a stepping stone to greater levels. Show me the greatest Necromancer in WoW that didn’t become something more. I’m legitimately curious. Darkmaster Gandling?
The Primus.
he is right that the darkmaster is the best living necromancer, but he didn’t hold a candle to kul’thuzad even when he was alive.
All the most powerful necromancers eventually became liches themselves.
