PvP should have never been looked at being an esport or balanced

TBC arena was great because that kind of balancing or removing two shotting people had not happened at that point.

Also generally on the topic ranked or competitive PvP doesn’t equal eSport. eSport is something where people are making money and careers.

It certainly started in BC. If you remember they made a big change to Taurens because Taruen Druids could be hit through pillars for example.

That is also the era of the Arena Tournament servers. The push to esports was probably at its greatest in that time. However, I basically agree that ranked PVP is not necessarily esports.

Yeah you don’t have 1550 on any of them lol

It’s like you’re reading my mind and feelings at the same time

RMP was a driving force to CCs sharing DR. Their have been many instances where arena affected pvp balance lets not be ignorant.

It’s not that PvP balance can’t be obtained in Arena. It just can’t be done without affecting Battlegrounds too, where PvP is more open and fun.

PvP specs were fine in Classic, some were better than others. Balance isn’t impossible when you only need to balance 9 specs in one area of the game.

The problem is when you need to balance 27+ specs in both Arena and BGs and no one told the devs that they both shouldn’t do that, and that it would negatively affect the overall balance and “fun factor” of PvP and PvE.

Plus… PvP stats (Resilience) are just dumb to begin with. TBC ruined so much about PvP.

Was only responding to a false statement that pvp balances was never made because of arena.

No, I follow you. I was just stating some thoughts out loud.

2018 first time 2400+ glad talking right here LOL

Why don’t you use war mode?

See, I think PVP should be about skill and not about gear or a certain class.

If people can gear up elsewhere and then crush in PVP it takes away from the player-verses-player aspect and makes it into who can PVE the best to get the gear. Even if the gear comes from PVP you’ll have a situation where someone can win a bit, gear a bit, win more because of the gear edge, win even more – it snowballs and loses the skill aspect.

Now, as for classes and specs. There is a fun meta where class and spec A can beat class and spec B who can beat C who can beat A. It becomes a rock-paper-sissors game and things are decently balanced overall. However, when one class-spec is very much more powerful than the others then that game is ruined. People flock to it and anyone who is not overpowered doesn’t really get to participate.

Now, a bit of unbalance is going to happen so there shouldn’t be too much tuning. However, there should be a bit of adjustment going on which keeps that balanced meta going so that PVP stays interesting.

To me, gear should be mostly cosmetic in PVP. Have it change the flavor of the combat - how it looks, maybe a few abilities or stats - but it should be a fairly minor aspect. Maybe 10% contribution to a battle, the rest should be in player choices and skills.

That is the beauty of vanilla… it blends the two. True balance is impossible anyway so why throw out class identity and make the game a spam fest where ret pallies go oom after 3 flashes of light… downrank you say? Unfortunately spell ranks no longer exist.

Perhaps it is obtainable. But in 14 years it has not been obtained. And in the pursuit of it the fun of PvP was sacrificed.
