Maybe we could assemble a dream team of a few people and contact Blizzards and offer to work with their PvP team (if they even have one) to fix these problems for free. We’ll just volunteer and fly out there.
I’d honestly pay for my own plane ticket from MA if they’d be willing to hear me out. I learned today that 27% of the player base has completed Dragonflight Season 3 Master, which means 27% of active accounts have hit 1800 in some form of Rated content. With that in mind it’s also safe to assume the majority of PvP players are below 1800 rating and or don’t participate in rated content at all. I’d estimate based on this figure alone that at least 50% of the player base plays some form of PvP content when they feel like it. Yet Blizz is still refusing to allocate resources to it. Why? Because apparently we’ll eat whatever they put in front of us.
Unfortunately the pvp community is not as big as the PvE community, so we have to be extra loud just to get ‘anything’ at all.
I left retail for classic because of war mode. I want to play retail, but it’s frustrating
If the numbers from DataforAzeroth, com are to be believed 27% of active profiles have hit 1800 rating. According to WoWHead that number is 38%. The number of players participating in non rated content and below 1800 is likely much higher, and thats JUST RETAIL. Not to mentions a large portion of the WoW Classic player base participates in PvP and many PvP players swapped to Classic. I’d estimate over 50% of the player base is doing PvP in some form. Even if it’s not as many as PvE that’s a lot of the player base, imagine if it wasn’t so neglected.
I bet a lot of players left retail for the same reason you did and if we had a PvP server a lot of them would come back for it. Would that hurt WoW Classic? I’m not sure.
Classic is already dwindling because it’s all recycled content sadly. Of course I want to enjoy all the new stuff in retail, but retail doesn’t feel like world of Warcraft anymore. It’s feels like a bunch of people holding hands and collecting mounts/pets/toys. I don’t play wow for that.
So would it hurt classic? Maybe, but eventually people will leave classic anyways after running the same content over and over again for years on end.
Edit: SoD was a breath of fresh air for classic, but it’s temporary.
That’s exactly why I decided to stick with Retail, I played through all of Classic years ago, Classic will last in the same way RuneScape and Diablo 2 have “Lasted”. Right now it’s still cool, and I enjoyed leveling and playing on it a bit with my niece and nephew but I’ve had the same characters for 19yrs now and I’m too attached to them to go back.
I really don’t like what’s become of the overall vibe of Warcraft, I agree too sterile and snuggly. Lacks grit, if TWW doesn’t pull it back on the cutsey stuff and deliver some grit I’ll play Season 1 and then call it quits. Gameplay wise the game feels awesome in a lot of ways but the story is a toothless flop.

You should pay attention to this time between expansions, there’s some mentions to PvP.
I really like the idea to move pvp to BG focus, It feels more fun to do objectives and other things depending on the map compared to Arena.
I was listening to that interview, I think that’s a great direction to take it in, hopefully it’s a good sign they’ll notice all these other problems as well. It will unfortunately damage an already struggling RBG scene that is if they aren’t getting rid of RBGs all together, Ion was a little unclear. Either way I think it’s a pretty good move, it should have come years ago before so many players left.
If retail/modern wow offered a pvp server to join, I would consider coming back to retail
You and probably a lot of other people, I gank between 15 and 500 people in open world nearly every day when I log in between ques. There are still some really good WPvP spots out there just gotta know where to look, but it’s not the same like it used to be before they added Warmode, I played on a PvP server since Vanilla right up till they removed them. Hard to say if the issue is allowing people to opt out or if it was the decline in player count that hit BFA and SLs like a bat. Probably a bit of both.
I don’t really gank. I just enjoy the pvp community better. I’ve made more friends on pvp servers than anything else. War mode has 0 community at all. Never made a single friend there.
Yup, totally agree, I make most of my friends while calling strats in BGs people just whisper me, sometimes I’ll forge dark alliances with random people I meet in large WPvP fights, helped some honor level 1 guy get the bounty achievement at like 2am this morning when I saved him from getting camped, we’re tight now. Some of that sense of community is still there but it just isn’t like it used to be.
If these numbers are to be believed it’s nothing short of insane that they’d forsake PvP the way they have.
Yup, kinda baffling. Ion suggested in some interview a couple yrs back that casual BGs see as much traffic as mythic dungeons, someone on this thread mentioned it way earlier. Why has Blizz tried so hard to run PvP into the ground?
I’ve seen the interview. Honestly couldn’t tell ya I think the lay offs and firings had a lot to do with it.
Yeah most likely, when did those start? When they finally gave us back PvP vendors I was filled with hope that they’d started listening again but then no, no definitely not. They came out in the start of DF and said they’d be monitoring Class Balance very closely in PvP, 4 failed nerfs to Demon Hunters and the lie detector test determined that was a lie, maybe Blizzard isn’t the father and that’s why they don’t care about PvP???
Found an article suggesting it was sometime before 2019 but I know it came in waves. At this point WoW PvP should just be free to play.
And it really doesnt matter if “WM” stays on normal servers, just allow a pvp server for people who want to be there.
Everyone wins
If the community council still reads this - we would really like a dedicated pvp server in modern wow. Can we make that happen?
They gotta be trying pretty hard to ignore it to be honest. PvP has no representation.
