PvP.... How Do Y'all Do IT?

No further questions your honor

I played FFXIV since 2.0 and loathe their PvP. It’s nothing but a mind numbing meat grinder.

Nope. No complaints about streamers. But I was the person removed because I made a comment that was removed, which was also a comment that was removed, which was about the problem of fairly benign comments being removed.

As for the “Sylvanas” ref, Im speculating that’s a inside reference for people who get a kick at getting comments removed. Dare to explain, or would that break the rules of Fight Club?

I’ve played off and on since release and pvp was bad back then now even after revamp its still an unbalanced mess

Dunno if they’re different from WoW players generally at a certain point of the game… Ive recently started low teens M+ and the amount of raging on others and raging quitting suggest WoW appeals to a certain kind of personality type. Like I dont know of many other games where dumping on others seems to be so fundamental to the game experience.

FFXIV PvP is the antithesis of WoW PvP. No variety, no different battles, everything is homogenized, overpowered CC with no counter play, sluggish combat, 1-shot Limit breaks. It’s the most annoying thing I’ve ever had the displeasure to play.

Who are you?

J/K welcome back

Yes and no

They’re removing the current cc reduction we have, so some abilities like cyclone and roots are going to be longer than they currently are, some abilities are going to be 0.1 second shorter, and some abilities like sap/blind will be significantly nerfed

Its not a global cc nerf. Its just the duration of some has been reduced, some by a lot and some by nothing noticeable, and some will be longer because we’re losing the 15% cc reduc trinkets currently give us

IMO (and yes, being someone who hast come no where close to mastering PvP), CC and movement effects are not PvP. Yes, PvP is a challenge of a very well-defined, developer determined skill sets, but I feel WoW PvP isnt about individual skill sets facing off against each other, ie, the amount CC/movement effects amounts to no actual PvP’n.

I would love to see Blizz make a custom BG-zone/map that removed all CC/movement effects from the actual brawling.

Honestly, I just do it.

I play games mostly for the pvp, and wow was a rough start for me. All I knew was my rogue, and lately my hunter and a few spells from other classes (like bubble for example). I was getting the shaft big time vs pretty much anything, anywhere. (duels, arenas and BGs)

You progressively get better gear though, and your skills get better so the fun started for me then, when I started to win games and fights more and more. It’s a blast when you finally feel that you’re in control and nobody scares you anymore. 10/10 would recommend sticking to it even if you’re bad in the beginning.

It requires some good addons and hyper awareness with some crazy reflexes to be successful in PvP. You also need an incredible amount of knowledge about all specs in PvP in order to counter them as well as play yours in an effective way.

If you’re getting constantly CC’d constantly all the constant time then you need to be aware and kick ( or step-kick since you play a sub rogue ), preemptively cloak of shadows, vanish and blind when appropriate.

A lot of higher end PvPers will tell you to watch a video or that WoW PvP is easy and press your buttons better but it is incredibly knowledge and reflex intensive in higher end rated PvP.

There are a lot of CC nerfs coming next patch but yeah essentially a good player just knows how to rotate CC on the healer or partner and kill the kill target. That’s what it boils down to.

Pvp is about out-trading the enemy and responding to cds accordingly and coming out ahead. Recognizing when the enemy overtrades/uses a cooldown for no reason and capitalizing on it. Making sure you don’t overlap your own responses by having a plan of what youre going to do when X happens. Recognizing what the enemy’s win condition is and when you’re going to be in trouble before you actually are. Knowing your own win condition and what you need to do to line it up

Having macros/addons/a good UI helps, but everyone will have those if you’re playing rated

If this thread is about unrated pvp then just having very basic knowledge of what cc duration reductions are (ie don’t use kidney shot on your target if they got stunned already 10 seconds ago), how to track enemy trinkets and what defensives you have in response to your enemy’s cds will let you ascend in bgs (but rogue is not a great random bg spec and has limited arena comps)

Knowing what classes and specs are capable of, then countering what theyre gonna do to kill you by killing them first.

Rolling with friends is the best and my preferred way. Premade AVs are an absolute blast.

I find caving in skulls quite enjoyable; when my target is live and not scripted, its even moreso.

Pvp is so fun.

I just stick to epic bgs. I’m not good enough to hang with the serious PvP crowd anyway, but I find epics way more Warcrafty. I wish we could get more focus on them as part of the core experience for PvP.

Not really asking for BiS PvP gear or anything, but maybe some seasonal rewards for people who dedicate time to them. They hold a unique spot where many builds that don’t work well in smaller bgs or arena environments can flourish.

Even some more events like Alterac Valley of Olde would be nice, without having to design brand new epics.

The only 1 shot limit break I can think of is samurai. And it only kills you if you’re attacking them while they are charging it and people just kill themselves from the reflect damage

The cc yes, some DR definitely needs to happen. Because the sleep and taunt spam is annoying

There’s definitely variety in modes and they rotate daily.

Other than that I enjoy FFxiv pvp because all roles matter and the ranked games revolve around ALL roles

I liked that part.

I get that even WoW PvP has some particulars, but if we gesture vaguely to FFXIV and say ‘other than that’, it’s not a good thing. At best it’s something to queue to get your daily roulette for XP on an alt job. That’s about it.

I just like killing horde. I’m no major pvper, but on a few chars I enjoy doing regular bg’s. We may lose allot being alliance but it makes the wins bittersweet.

idk i just like pvp. I plan on healing with this guy in pvp. I look forward to it. I just need to git gud.

this is where you failed
