Templates killed PvP not to mention gear still matters then added Artifact Levels as well for added insult. Guess what we will only make item lvls matter and add in AP grind too. Ohhh and you have to do world quest and mythics to get the best item lvls and AP too.
So what did templates do? We still have the same problem people complain about which is doing PvE for PvP gear. Now only item level matters and it couldn't be less fun trying to attain this gear. This is the worst design ever for an MMORPG.
Just give us back customization of gear, gems, enchants, reforging, prof buffs.
Let us play and bring back Arena gear for rating. Let us PvP for PvP gear. Then let us change the stats how we want.
Now it's just insane grind of PvE and AP to compete for who has the highest item lvl and done the most world quest to be competitive.

I don't think templates killed pvp, I think templates were just not fully flushed out. they need to add rating scaling with stats you have, so if you have more crit than mastery make the scale of the template reflect that.

So my template is Haste and Crit my 2 worst stats.... I don't want more of either. I don't want these stats at all!
I would never pick these stats. I don't have too which is why I quit and my longest break from WoW was during this disaster of an expansion. Waiting for BFA or Classic which ever lets me choose how I want to build my character first!
There is no point in playing if I can't build my own character and actively be able to counter comps myself. Having templates is just less counters and no reason to even play.

Yeah that is what I'm saying, lets see if I can explain it... lets say this
I have gear and my crit is 200 my haste is 20 and my mastery is 100... these are completely off scale but for this example this will work.
So when my template comes into play ... my CRIT is highest my mastery is 2nd highest and my haste is the lowest... allowing you to control what your "MAIN" stats are while still bringing everyone inline for more balanced pvp. As they are now the templates are crap for the reason you said "I can't choose my path" but lets not just toss the system... let's tweak it in the right direction.
I mean Templates are good, i have been having some fun on Instanced PVP, i can´t deny that, however, out of the "Bubble" of Instaced PVP, you are completely useless, the gear you get is hideous and not useful at all.
First game back after two weeks against a guild premade and got stomped. Blizzard acknowledges this problem by disableing 10 man premades yet leaves 5 man in the game and expects the same thing not to happen?????? What B.S. After playing this game with over 100 days played since B.C. I am done. This game is cancer.

They are crap for every reason.

Bingo. Templates has been the worst system to date. We tried it and it failed on every level. Let us customize our own characters again and create our own counters for comps by switching gear set, gem etc.

Agreed. Not only that, but (gonna state the obvious) we need more customization in general.
The template was a mistake. I barely noticed a difference when I got geared in instanced pvp. What stinks the most is if your template stinks, you're at the complete mercy of it.
Just let players gear up and select their stats.

Sure feels good to have been 2.2k last season and only be 956 ilvl... while running into pvers with 979 ilvl... good times... Thanks blizzard for sorting out this gear issue.

Yea that is crazy why doesn't PvE gear scale down? Why can't gear acquired from PvP scale up?
A real lack of effort here from the Dev team.
I feel like the game as a whole makes more sense if the numbers you see in the world don't change drastically depending on what type of content you're doing. Looking back, I think that's a contributing factor to low pvp participation in legion. The templates kind of took all sense of "progression" away from the player because there's no real difference between a low and high geared player. It's also just weird and feels like playing a completely different game going between raids/pve and pvp instances.
My aimed shots get up to like 8 million in PvE and might get up to 800k in a perfect scenario in an arena (could probably make one hit for a million if using suboptimal talents but you get my point). Not that that makes it impossible to play or anything, but a lot of people are just disinterested from even starting because it seems like a mystery figuring out what your buttons actually do if you haven't ever pvp'ed before. Like, they don't make it super clear which spells get a huge nerf to "damage done against other players" on the tooltip. So if I want to do something like try out meme build MM in arena, I have no idea that piercing shot hits for less than a standard aimed shot until I go lose a match experimenting with it.
I feel like from a scaling standpoint, pvp and the open world should be the same and scale more linearly through the course of the expansion, and if anything is going to have to "scale" to meet PvE progression standards, it should be an ICC esque raid buff that you get in PvE encounters (i.e., your output scales UP in pve instances instead of making everything else scale DOWN because everything has to progress exponentially to keep 4 tiers of PvE/raids relevant through the course of an expansion).

It is a different game because I can stat in open world how I would for PvP. I do feel like gear and Artifact LvL matter just not how we want it to matter. Now PvE raiders have the advantage in PvP. It's discouraging running into Mythic raiders in PvP and their gear isn't scaled down.
My template is haste/crit which are 2 of my worst stats. When I should be stacking Mastery/Versa. In instanced PvP my 2 best stats are my lowest. Which means the gameplay is just terrible. It's the reason why I had my longest leave from WoW of almost a year. I just can't play how I want and they are telling me I have to play a certain way which isn't how any class/spec should be. There should be freedom to play how you want.
If you want to build a dam Dps spec as Holy Paladin so be it. Let people play how they want.

I agree and the scaling and stat bloat is insane. I just solod my first mythic yesterday. Never in an expansion were players steam rolling through current content like they are now. Some players can handle a Mythic 15+ solo. The difference gear makes this expansion is completely bonkers. Where 1 player can handle difficult content for an entire geared group.

Why is PvE gear better than PvP gear for PvP?? How is this a thing?!
Ironic we're heading into a "Battle for Azeroth" expansion giving the current state of PvP. They clearly don't seem to care that much for PvP'ers.
rng chance to get gear, then rng chance to titanforge or warforge
not only do you have to hope for the right gear drop, but you have to hope for the right modifier too, like rng ontop of rng doesn't make gearing fun, especially if the "finish line" for gearing is completely based on rng titanforged.
not to mention gearing in pve is infinitely easier/faster than gearing in pvp

This is the exact reason I cancelled my sub yesterday.. I do not have time to raid.. I play the game for arena.. I do not play to pve.. Till this is fixed.. i'm gone.. i'm not mad, just gone till it's fixed..

Yea I took a year off my longest break from WoW. Legion gets an easy vote for worst expansion to date for PvP especially. Nothing good about it.
I came back just so I could poke around before BFA and figure out if there would be enough changes to buy it. Already looking better than Legion but that isn't hard. The stat squish and GCD helps. Just need to know if gearing will be fixed and if templates are gone so we can gem, enchant and customize our characters again.
Holy pally has been fun in Wpvp,
As tanky as a prot pally
As much damage as a ret pally
All the healing of a holy pally
Its fun to Wpvp and make dps feel how healers feel in arenas.
Why did they think RNG gearing is good?
Oh also remember when they reset honor talents upon prestiging? That went live for like 2-3 months. Yikessssss
you cant even use pvp trinkets in arenas????

Yea that is super dumb and there were some other useful trinkets too for RBGs like the increase health on use as FC.
Removing trinkets just dumbs down the game further by removing counterplay and builds. They need to bring back PvP gear but also remove templates so you can choose trinkets and gem/enchant again. Sorry for those few that disagree but it just allows for more comp diversity.
Not only that Blizzard would be smart to do that because it also would cause people to faction or race change more because of gearing and comp options. That is how I ended up human. Found BiS trinkets. So it made my build so much more fun in WoD to switch to human. It was great!! It is nice to have options.
