When using the PvP set gear, the item level inflates as if I were in a Battleground/Arena, but I’m not. I’m in the Ringing Deeps.
Last I checked, this is not a BG or Arena. Why is the item level going up?
You probably got hit by another player or you flew over a PvP zone (the free for all areas).
It’ll scale you up in those situations, and you’ll remain scaled for a minute or so.
But it says that when you’re in a BG or Arena. I was in neither, just the open world.
Seems odd.
It’s not explained on the tooltip, but it’ll also scale in World PvP whenever you enter PvP combat or you fly into a PvP area.
In Instanced PvP, it’ll always remain scaled up. In world, only when you engage in PvP combat (or someone engages PvP combat with you) or you go into a PvP area.

Very. But Blizzard is sort of lazy and doesn’t want to explain all of that.

Be grateful that it works in wpvp when people can have mythic etc gearing.

And here I was having a pve set to pvp in the open world lol. Good to know.
