PvP flagged players sitting in the middle of events on normal servers

Hey just started playing again, was wondering if this is working as intended or…

happening in void assaults, I’ve checked that I’m definitely not in warmode, I do not directly attack the players and all of a sudden they turn look at me and I’m dead (leveling and they maxed out with decent gear), did a google and apparently my aoe abilities will count as a hit and flag me, which is half my abilities. So is my only choice to sit there in the events not contribute and auto attack while these trolls ruin it or?

Google also said and tried it myself you can just type /pvp to do this which blows my mind, what’s the point of having/had a dedicated pve/pvp servers then to be replaced with war mode toggle only to have players who are board ruin your ability to participate in an event in any meaningful or fun way?

hoping I missing something or there is some sort of command to opt into pve only if they can opt into pvp so even my aoes don’t attack etc

The few times this has happened in modern WoW (Warmode era), it’s been a bug. In principle, a PvE player whose AoE attack area includes a PvP-flagged opposite faction player should not have any effect on that second player.

Can you specify which AoE ability you were using which appears to have triggered the flag? Despite it not supposed to work that way, they need to know what’s wrong before they can fix it. Also, sharing your talent build may help isolate the cause of the anomaly.

Until we’re sure, I wouldn’t even use Thrash unless you’re ready for the consequences.

As with all bugs, it’s inconvenient, but this one at least you have choices. You don’t have to let it ruin your gameplay or drive you from the game.
