Rest assured you absolutely can play the game in “casual mode” without needing to do serious PVE.
Of course, if you want to be as geared as the people you are facing, you will need to put in the same effort they did.
no you cant.
you get your pvp sets then you get the honor of being farmed like an npc by heroic and mythic raiders in casual mode, barred from rated, and angry forum posts about how you and the people like you ruin pvp because you have no gear. There is literally a forum post called “do people with no gear deserve to be shamed”
So what, they don’t deserve to use the gear they worked for in random BGs that aren’t even a competitive progression pathway?
A lot of people like being geared and they dedicate a lot of time towards doing it.
You can do the same thing too.
Either way, if all you are going to do is random BGs you are never going to be able to match those who are geared, even if they make PVP gear better or whatever people want.
It’s like you don’t even bother reading what anyone has said in this thread. You have been told multiple times that unrated PvP was a progression path for PvP and offered BiS PvP gear (at a slower rate than rated) for several expansions.
Really man, you already said you can’t give useful input here, why are you still posting this nonsense?
They didn’t work for it. they engaged in another unrelated activity and got a free ride, then instead of at the bare minimum of engaging in pvp content at the the level relevant to there gear they decide to bully others.
its literally like a professional athlete going to a high school JV team and trouncing them for poops and giggles.
and your right its not their fault. its the developers…which is the point of the OP. FIX THE PROGRESSION SYSTEM TO SERVICE YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT YOU ARE DESCRIMINATING AGAINST.
Tbc through WoD I never PvE’ed to get my bis gear, I did bgs for the starter set and then got geared through arena that was on par or close to a bis pve geared player but pvpers had the advantage due to pvp stats.
Now you can’t compete without gearing through m+ first cause the pvp gear is an absolute joke.
Anyone who thinks PvP is fun without being forced to go raid/mythic+ for gear; by all means, please go buy ilvl 68 gear from the pre patch PvP vendor and go see how much fun you have in PvP.
Seriously man, give up on the sports analogies lol…
Anyway, if you think being a mythic geared player equates to “getting a free ride” I can see why you are upset.
You would rather random BGs, something you can actually not contribute at all in and still win, give you loot equivalent to those who worked hard for it?
Really, calling this “bullying” too…
Man, I am starting to see why Blizzard isn’t listening to this argument!
Ya, like I said, I think you can thank Classic for this.
Either way, this is how it is now.
Just remember, that if you need PVE gear to “compete” then it means the opposition has done it too.
If so many people hate it, then it should be a blessing in disguise, because it should mean you will come up with many people who have not put forth their best effort to gear up.
Not a great consolation, but something interesting to think about, right?
Did the mythic raider engage in hundreds of hours of pvp…no…thats a free ride.
it would be the same as me walking into a mythic raid in rated pvp gear and soloing the boss then master looting all the gear to myself and permanantly locking you out of the raid. then telling you to go get the blood dk azerite gear scrub.
Ironically, this is why they had to make so many changes to PVP gear over the years.
One side has to win out, and I think its pretty obvious that PVE is the one that is going to get the vote from Blizzard, considering pvp takes place inside content from a decade ago with out any requirement for innovation and development year after year.
Either way, no free rides.
They worked for their gear, and nothing is stopping you from doing the same.
But as I mentioned, it doesn’t matter in random BGs. You can just jump around and auto shot and those mythic raiders will carry you to a victory along the way!
I am somewhat in the same boat as you, however I kind of enjoy mythic+ and raiding to an extent so it’s not as big a bother to me. One thing I will say, is I really hope I never have to do bg’s to get optimal gear for pvp. I think random bgs are poorly designed… (one team having a tank on FC maps, one team having 2 healers, gear disparities etc) a lot of the time I feel helpless when put in the losing end of one of these situations.
Due to the popularity of things like HonorBuddy back in the day, I’d say a ton of people also weren’t thrilled about having to bg for gear. It’s hard to find a middle ground for it. Some form of ilvl scaling for pvp and PvE gear would be a good start. (Think WoD)
I think the main problem with the systems is things like mythic+ are far too rewarding for such little time/effort/skill investment as opposed to rated arena. The gear reward for a 15 in s4 was the same as capping pvp at 2400. Getting 500 conquest from arena games at 2400+ was a multi hour time investment I mean every game could easily go 7 or more minutes, and if you lose you get nothing. Not to mention the amount of time to GET to 2400, plus Q time and gate time. And you needed high ilvl to get there in the first place. But a mythic 15 was easy, didn’t have to make timer regardless, and you only had to do 1.
I don’t know what the middle ground should be, but the disparity in the rewards for both systems is kind of ridiculous
I understand the gear “grind” to compete in PVE, and apparently its the same thing, so I might, without realizing it haha
For me though, I just play the game and get gear along the way.
I know that apparently isn’t happening in PVP, and that’s regrettable perhaps, but those are the times we live in now.
I think my original comment to you was not one to edit out.
If everyone hates doing PVE to gear up, then those serious about excelling should have a dramatic advantage because they will put forth more effort than the others.
A silver lining of sorts, in a grim, unfair kind of way haha
Ya, and ultimately this is probably the issue at its heart.
This has developed because the systems are all giving different amounts of rewards, but the playerbase expects them not to.
You can’t fix this without creating special rulesets and gear caveats and considering they used to do that and removed it, it must be for a reason.
In the end, I imagine their decision is to make PVE (the element of the game that receives constant updates and requires hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop yearly) be overly profitable for all levels of play.
Then you can take that effort and apply it anywhere else in the game, from transmog farming to PVP.
This is how the game was once upon a time, and those days got forced on us again thanks to those who clamored for Classic, so it doesn’t surprise me they are making the decision in this way.
The alternative is back to a land where you’d just AFK in random bgs and get gear that was better than all that mid-tier pve we are talking about.
Which is better?
That’s subjective of course, but I think its obvious why Blizzard has chosen to tip the scales towards PVE, given how much time they have to put into it.
In the end, I think its better for the game overall to encourage many pathways, but obviously a niche in the community has developed who got used to only ever having PVP in front of them.
I imagine, to that crowd, Blizzard would say “sorry, but we never wanted that to be how it is.”
PVEers don’t like being forced into PVP by the development team, either, so I can relate to your frustration. For example, I will never get that Legion Tailoring recipe that requires a win in rated PVP, and the PVP-related achievement for Children’s Week is the only one still keeping me from having the Violet Proto-Drake.
Blizzard abandoning PVP just means they have garbage management, its not some kind of justification. id suspect it was there failure to make wow arena an esport.
absolutely a free ride. just poorly skilled players getting handicap over the hard workers. typical Ivory tower stuff. ruins the game for everyone in the long run.
I certainly can confirm it did the opposite for me.
I hated templates and all the overly bloated stat systems they tried in the past.
Its nice to be able to go into pvp and feel like my commitments to the game have carried over.
It is odd that PVP doesn’t at least offer gear that good though.
That part I can’t understand for sure.
@Metrohaha idk how to Quote on mobile but yeah I would take pretty much any content where I get to vet and pick my team (m+ raid arena etc) over a ragtag bunch of AFKers in a bg where half my team is sitting in our flag room alt tabbed.
