Put damage back in Spells not CDs

So I’m approaching this from a PvE perspective because I quite literally never PvP in WoW.

If we moved damage out of CDs you would either have to do this universally for all classes, or you would have to accept that some specs would be terrible in anything that isn’t a pure single target Patchwerk encounter.

Cooldowns add texture to gameplay, and create a space for coordination. Most people that play WoW just assume that you’re slam your CDs as soon as their up, but in higher forms of M+ and raiding that isn’t always the case, you’re often coordinating where certain CDs go in order to meet certain checks.

If everyone just did the same damage from pull to pull because CDs were removed ( which they really would have to be in order to eliminate any kind of stacking ) the game would get mighty boring.

Again, I only PvE, so I recognize my perspective is skewed in a different direction than OP’s, but I digress.

i’d kinda like that. it gets old rotating dmg cds that trigger gcd just to setup burst.

it feels like i gotta do meal prep before eating when i just want a quick burger

i’d be worried itd turn into some type of “spam frostbolt and that’ll be good” type of situation tho.

Not really. It didn’t used to be this way. We had CD but the classes weren’t designed around doing all the damage during them. You saw an increase for correct CD usage but you didn’t fall off the meters for missing one window.

For sure, I’m just not sure that it’s actually better for the game to have your CDs be only a minor damage increase, than what they are now. I think it’s good that popping cooldowns can have a significant impact on the outcome of a pull. If you over pull and everyone full sends their CDs you’re likely going to be able to salvage it because of how impactful everyone’s CDs are. If everyone’s CDs are relatively weak, you might still wipe. This would in turn create a much slower game overall, and I’m not sure that’s the right decision to move in.

I don’t hate ROP then again I hate the idea I have to take time to cast it so I ignore and just pop on Arcane Power and call it a day lol

I think its the exact direction they should go in. For that exact reason. It would stop the meta of every M+ season being whoever can burst aoe the most. You would have to think about things like do you want to use you CDs on a boss, that really tough elite coming up, or to aoe a troublesome pack of mobs.

Reason why I dislike Fire Mage. Granted, Mage as a whole depends on procs and cooldowns, but Fire Mage takes it to another level imo.

in DF I think I’m playing VFless build if possible.

On the contrary as a tank this would make things more consistent. I know my group can handle X mobs of Y difficulty on average and every 2min I can pull a bit more. This makes my life a lot easier than having to run cooldown trackers for everybody and pray that the cooldowns are lined up when we need to pull big only to find out the trackers didn’t work properly and we wipe.

CDs shouldn’t be the be-all end-all of the game and they are. It really really makes the game feel like garbage because people either hoard their CDs for bosses because that used to be a viable way to play or because you’re just absolute trash outside of them. Either way it doesn’t feel good. CDs should be the icing on the cake, not a rush to bake one in 15s or less or you’re dead.

Never been a huge fan of the pop all cooldowns and burst method. It’s fine in some specs but dear god I feel bloody useless half the time. Outside the CD period I feel like I’m tickling the mobs on most of my classes

Once they moved Combustion from a DoT to a self-buff CD, I put fire down and never picked it back up.

No.

I agree, OP.

They rely so heavily on cd’s and borrowed power systems to make a class “interesting.” All it does it make it weak and boring outside of the cd’s.

Only a few specs should truly be relying on cd’s(Sub Rogue for example). It’s the nature of the spec. When they tried to make it have sustain it was laughable and boring(Shadow Dance spam basically being a maintenance buff in Legion). It didn’t work. But does everyone need to be relying on cd’s to put out good damage?

They must think that the game is full of window lickers that sit and drool every time they see big numbers and treat the damage as “DPS Expansions.”

Consume CD with big big numbers.
Wait for next CD.
Don’t ask questions.

I’d at least like this for mage. The current state of mage filler is pathetic.
