Purchase Flying?

No to the having 80 Renown. According to the updated information, flying in will available after unlocking the main hub in Korthia after 9.1 drops. I believe this is the next chaper in the covenant storyline.

I didn’t explain this well in my original post, but my fear was that it wouldn’t be gold, but instead something like anima or another currency that required more grinding.

I doubt they would conjure up some new currency just for flying.

If anything, it will be a currency already planned to be introduced (like something for the new Market area) or one that currently exists.

If that ends up being the case, I would just be concerned about how much of this currency we would need.

My guess is that they won’t do this though. They will either stick to completing the questline (and maybe the “purchase” part was just a miswording) or it will just be a gold purchase.

Yeah definitely not.

There is a 99% it was just a miswording and that this is a non-issue, but with Shadowlands often being referred to as Systemlands I felt the need to speak out against another potential time-gate.

I think that it’s worse than a typo, personally, just from seeing their various moves over time.

I think that they slipped the word in there to see what their player base would tolerate.

Is anyone actually flying on the PTR yet? Even if they are, stuff can change from the PTR to live. I think that they put that purchase in there to see if players would immediately dig in hard and threaten to quit if they pulled their old trick of adding layers to unlocks, like getting Renown only unlocks the ability to purchase appearances, pets and mounts with Anima.

I think that they’re testing the waters on making flying similar, that each character has to pay to buy the item to fly. Gold in the range of 1k to 5k would be the best case scenario, but what if it was 10k Anima? Even 5k would be a huge burden for alts since they don’t share in the covenant base progress boosts. What if it’s some new currency that you have to grind for in the new areas? What if it’s Valor?

So they just kind of toss that “purchase” word into the waters to see how much it makes their players outright say that they’ll quit. People think that Blizzard wholly ignores feedback, but they really don’t. They just don’t look to it for things that they should change. The only way they use it is as a barometer of how much their players will tolerate before they just quit, and I think that’s what they’re doing here.

Me, personally, if it’s an anima or alternate currency purchase that I need to grind for on every alt, that will be the last nail in the coffin with this game for me. FFXIV is looking pretty nice these days and a lot of my friends have already headed over there. Then the Blizzard developers can figure out how to make the finances of the game work when it’s only hardcore raiders and Mythic+ key pushers left, who just use the open world as a lobby. I mean, if they can just pitch leveling and questing and exploration in the trash that’s probably a big savings in costs, but I really don’t see how they’d have the finances to keep going at a AAA level with most of their casual player base gone.

If it’s any anima, I’m out. Blizz’ pettiness with flying since WoD is ridiculous. It’s bad enough we’ve had to wait as long as we’ve had to again. If we have to wait until 60 on an alt and then purchase flying with anima…well, that’ll be the last straw for me. Systemlands took all the worst things of the previous 2 expansions and made them even worse. This has been the worst expansion in the history of the game for me, and if I have to put up with the horrendous anima grind on alts just to fly, I’m out. I’ll go back to SWTOR or something. I’ve had enough of this crap.

Much rather buy it than reknown 80.

There’s nothing to suggest that this is any different from any other riding skill, i.e. the ones we already have.

Simply, if you do the quest, and get the gizmo, any toon that has purchased flying, can fly.

Your level alt can not purchase flying, therefore they can not fly. When they reach the appropriate level, they can purchase flying like any other toon, and will be able to fly in the SL.

But typical of Blizzard they choose to not clarify this sort of thing.

I love this game and I have played it for an extremely long time. That being said I’m incredibly frustrated that I have to agree with you that this would be the final nail in the coffin for me as well.

I hope for your sake and mine that this won’t be the case.

You can buy master and artisan riding right now. The article says that whatever you get at 44 renown lets you buy the skill. So it’s either a terrible case of miswording or there is indeed a new skill to buy à la cold weather flying. That has an unspecified cost. That could be something other than gold.

With all the stupid pop culture references made in this game that’s a joke  Believe it was Bashiok who tried to use that lame excuse on the topic of Flight during Wod lol.

No, Blizzard is. They tried to remove flying, full stop. People left en masse, and it seems like they’ve been punishing us since then in regards to flying.

The 2 things I quoted were direct from Ion before WoD came out: immersion and better outdoor play. Look it up.

Why is there a 99% chance of a “miswording”?

Are people parroting “it’s not like that on PTR!” drivel still? Do people seriously think that PTR is set in stone? I guess we can all get free keystones from keystone vendors if that’s the case /s.

Bashiok used it in a Polygon interview not long after wod was released when asked about flying.

Source for this supposed “vast majority?” Because I see a lot of people who like account wide unlocks and not wasting thousands of gold per alt. The problem is length of time before unlock. That’s where some have an issue.

Case in point.

I used an arbitrarily “high” percentage to imply that this could all be a misunderstanding while leaving margin for speculation as to their wording.

I 100% agree with you that these things are not set in stone and that there is a chance this was not a slip up on Blizzard’s end.

Also, sorry for the confusion earlier, didn’t mean to make you feel insulted. Unrelated to the post I’m replying to here, but I felt bad.

Yeah, their wording is pretty direct and appears quite deliberate.

I was concerned that someone was spouting off “it’s like this on PTR so it’ll be this way in live for sure because wowhead says so” or something. There’s a certain person who was doing that a few days ago and I stuck them on ignore. They had even gone as far as saying that wowhead can datamine things before those things are released on PTR.

All good fam. That’s why I asked for clarification. If COVID has taught me anything it’s that trying to interprets someone’s exact meaning via text can be difficult.
