Purchase Flying?

I would agree with you, IF we had gotten flying early. But since we still have what is effectively pathfinder, just under another name, we should get the one benefit pathfinder gave us: free flying account wide.

Dude nobody expect an outside game acquisition. And if, big if, it ever happens, you can kiss WoW goodbye.

What most are afraid is an ingame currency that’s not gold. Like anima, soul ash, or whatever new currency is set to come out in 9.1.

All this drama would have been avoided if blizzard had clarified.

This consumable item allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones!

This wording makes it sound like there will be an additional riding skill that needs to be purchased to fly in SL content. If they simply mean that if your alts haven’t already learned how to fly, then obviously they need to pay for that, then they REALLY need to send out another blue post to clarify what they meant in the original.

Just curious but when purchasing the riding skill was mentioned, was gold included in the description? Perhaps the reward we receive (Memories of Sunless Skies) is basically the currency that we purchase the flying skill with? Your post could be a rush to judgement, but is equally very poor wording in Blizzard’s description.

oh it pretty much is exactly like a child throwing a tantrum

You’re correct. I could have been to preempted with my post and is likely poor wording on Blizzard’s end. This could be a complete non-issue.

I think the lack of communication on their end in the past few months has left a bad taste in my mouth and so when this showed up in my feed it tilted me more than I’d like to admit.

You are in no way alone here!

maybe they’ll learn their lesson and just tell players when they’ll be unlocking flying for expansions from now on.

what is their problem with this stuff? like it doesn’t matter to keep the info from the players…why even let them stress out over it /headdesk

i think it should just be something you kind of purchase at max level like the earlier expansions. I know the whole art argument, but art team hasn’t impressed me this expansion, so flying can’t come soon enough lol

Yes, but as I literally pointed out in that post, it’s a typo.

Wowhead covers this stuff like a hawk, and there have been no changes to the item in question that when used grants you flying. It doesn’t require you to purchase it first. The item in question is a quest reward, so, when you complete the quest you get ‘Memories of the Sunless Skies’ and then once you use it, BAM, flying unlocked across your entire account.

That’s because wowhead gets their info from ptr. what’s to say next ptr build suddenly changes the whole thing to mirror what this article said?

I’m confused. Am I the child in this situation? I’m not aware of the WoD flying debacle. Not saying it didn’t exist, but I’m not informed enough to speak on it.

I’d be willing to concede on pathfinder, but as you mentioned:

I think my end goal would be for it to one or the either and not both. Though the renown system is not technically “pathfinder” it shares similarities.

Agreed, however, this means it’s Pathfinder enables purchase.

So it’s now BOTH, together.

Some are pointing out, including wowhead, that the purchase might be the final flying skill, which most of us will already have at 60 and the post wasn’t typed out very well, which bad on the Blue’s part. So here’s hoping it’s just the token…

I’ll be crossing my toes as well on this one haha

Allow me to catch you up from an old post on the subject in response to someone who also didn’t experience the WoD debacle first hand.

A small prequel to this post: At Blizzcon 2013, when WoD was announced, Mike Morhiame (who was President of Blizzard at the time), accidentally let it slip on the Directv broadcast between Main Stage presentations, that WoD wouldn’t have flying at launch, but would be enabled in a future patch. This tidbit caused the forums to turn into a flaming hell of a Civil War between then PvP griefers who suddenly saw the opportunity to kill flying and make it harder for their victims to escape, and the pro-flyers, even after WoD’s launch because Blizzard kept being vague on their plans to enable flying.

Many players refused to purchase WoD until this was resolved, myself included.

This lasted until the Friday before Memorial Day 2015…

Hope this helps.

How?

Even if we have to pay for it, gold is flowing like a river right now.

You will be able to unlock flying 7 weeks after Patch 9.1 goes live. 7 weeks after so long a wait for 9.1 is not good . Way to long !!!

Your flying ‘here’s the truth’ post is way off the mark. WoD had many, many problems, attributing all of the sub losses to just one thing is disingenous, to say the least. Many people were outraged at the amount of content that was cut from the game. Many people were upset that the 6.1 patch was pure garbage. Many people were upset that the expansion was cut short and that an entire raid tier (and all it’s associated content) was scrapped.

I could go on with the list of how many people were pissed at various problems that WoD had. All of which contributed to the sub losses.

I appreciate you taking the time to inform me. I was unaware of the gravity of the situation. I always knew people had their issues with flying, but I didn’t realize how polarizing of an issue it was. It seems like it hits a lot of people right at the core of their player experience. Perhaps maybe that’s why I had such a visceral reaction myself?

It will be purchasable with 200 fishing daily tokens
