Kyrrena, friend of the toxic min-maxers.
As more beta testers join in and additional tuning is done on the covenant abilities/soulbinds/conduits, it’s becoming more and more obvious that tying power to the covenants is a bad idea.
Hopefully Blizzard will use the additional time to reconsider this path and unlink them. Let the covenants be the aesthetic/RPG choice that we all want them to be and save us all from the mess that this expansion will otherwise become.
This is honestly the best course of action, with the delay just let everyone into beta. It doesn’t hurt anyone and everyone can experience just how frustrating the system is to deal with.
Why not just simply unbind all skills for a class. Let it play out like New World. let players design their own classes . Who needs restrains right? Pick the easy road as always.
Honestly took you longer than others to jump to then why even have classes! but you finally got there in the end. Good job, now you can leave the thread with the smug look on your face like you told a thread of people asking for powers to be decoupled that classes shouldn’t exist.
As I said before. Time will answer. I am 99% sure they are going to still tied to power. For Blizzard to remove that. It would take another year of redoing the expansion. Ion already said its a deep rooted system, and not simple just moving things to a skill tree. Have a good day!
Wait. Is that on the table? Because that sounds fun as hell, what are you smoking?
Being able to mold my class into whatever kind of spec I want? That sounds amazing, is this honestly the argument you want to make in favor of keeping player power tied to covenants?
Its what people call, " The Slippery Slope". X causes y. You wouldn’t be a shaman. You would be a Draenei that can cast fireball and shadow bolt with death strike?
The fact is it doesnt really work. Go read the New World Forums. People are
already complains skill are unbalanced and breaks meta there.
Nono. I’m talking the restriction of specs here. Why shouldn’t that be the case? If I want to take some restoration spells so I can be an emergency healer while I play an enhancement-like set up, is that not extremely fun?
Do we know that for sure? I mean im all for the ripcord but do we know that is the exact reason they delayed it? God I hope it is but they might just try to tune the covy abilities in that time.
What fun is that? Have restrictions? You should remove classes as well and have a skill list. A class is just like a covenant. A series of skills and powers.
A class is not like a covenant at all, I really don’t see why this extremely disingenuous argument is constantly being made.
What you’re advocating for is putting more layers on top of already existing layers that have been there since the beginning of the game.
A base level it is. You join a coveant and you get a skill and a skill tree to choose from.
You pick a class. You get a series of skill and a skill tree to choose from? Essentially a covenant is a sub class of your class. Thats it.
Your right. What bores me to death with FFXI is that the only level of progression is ilevel. You grind dailies for token, you grind raids and dungeons for tokens. but at the end of the expansion its just ilevel.
Lets face it. Every thing in an MMO is borrowed power. Just take a look t the last 15 years of wow power gone with this squish. Borrowed power…
Bro, there’s a difference between a class you lock in for 16-17 years, and a covenant with 2 years, maybe 3 max of borrowed power. Also, a class is way more sentimental and permanent than this system.
That is an extremely reductive way to think about a class. A class is a lot more than just the skills you get. Yes, they are a major element of classes, but just picking an ability is not akin to picking a class. Picking up an artifact weapon didn’t give you a “subclass” for you, it was just abilities. Now imagine how terrible Legion would have been if they made spec swapping even worse than how it launched. Imagine if once you picked an artifact weapon, you had to use that artifact weapon for every spec.
THAT would have been terrible. I guarantee every single person who’s saying that the ripcord shouldn’t be pulled would not have appreciated that kind of design in Legion.
People are breaking down covenants to “Power” and “Skills” I think its a fair comparison. Covenants to people are more then just the skill and abilities that are paired to them.
They pulled the delay ripcord.
A covenant is power and transmog, bro.
