Public service announcement: locked chests in Dungeons are a profession node and are always rogue prio

I’m quite astonished at the amount of controversy surrounding this and it’s caused drama a few times in my travels.

Most reasonable people agree and don’t make a big deal about the random 1g green that I get. Some people, however, simply cannot understand why I wouldn’t roll on a box that can only be opened by a profession that I trained to 300. I dont make a big deal of a miner mines some thorium veins. I don’t demand that we roll on the mining node and this person must then mine the ore and trade me it.

I leveled my profession to 300. I open the box. I keep the loot. It was and always will be this way. For me, and should be for all rogues.

I think you’re right. I just avoid the hassle and roll it off. I feel it isn’t worth the argument.

Lockpicking isn’t the only way to open a chest you know.

In the open world yes. However, most of the time in a dungeon, you can’t clear the mobs without a group. Chest rarely has anything good in them, maybe a green and some pots. But if you wanna be that guy, more power to you.

If its a 5 man dungeon for example… personally i think the people who have the ability to open it (rogues, blacksmithers and engineers who have the skill) should roll for it. If the rogue wins, cool. If a blacksmither or engineer wins, cool.
If only one person is able to open it, it goes to them imo.

Do locked boxes that drop from mobs go to rogue automatically? It’s the same with dungeon chests. They belong to the groups not the rogue.

Its rogue job to unlock it, just like Lock provides summons, Mage makes portals and food/water.

If I am a blacksmith and I use a consumable key to open the chest, I assume it should go to me rather than rolling? If people think we should roll, I guess I should be compensated for my consumable?

Nope.

Did your rogue get kicked from a 5 man again or yelled at cause you ‘ninja’d the chest’?

FeelsBad.

Oh man if I was in a group with a rogue and people kicked him for taking a locked chest, I would hearth out as well and be pissed at the group leader for wasting my time. It’s the rogue’s (or anyone who could open it with keys or charges) call what happens to it. If they say lol rogue tax and take it, so be it, if they take it and give the pots to a caster, great, if they take it and offer the gear to anyone who needs it great. If they say that :poop: is mine shove it, fine, I may not group with that rogue in the future. But if a group torpedoes a full run over something like that in going to be pissed, and not at the rogue

Get over it, Classic is nearly a year old, and you guys are still trying to make this happen.

If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now. The community has rejected it. Chests in dungeons are treated the same way lockboxes are treated. They are the property of the group.

Refuse and unlock if you want and get kicked for one of the other 1000000000000000000000 rogues or dps hunters if you care that much, but its not changing. And no, noone cares.

My preference is to bring warriors anyway and let the chest rot.

That’s fair. That’s how it should work. Everyone CAN open locked chests. Most people just CHOOSE not to.

Its okay OP, that’s a rooky rogue mistake. Next time you can use stealthy rogue ability called deceit and make the party think that you cannot open it. And after the party completes the dungeon thinking nothing better, you stealth back and open it uncontested.

First mistake, you don’t need a rogue to open a chest.

Second mistake, that’s not a profession.

Third mistake, it was never this way.

Lastly, whenever I get a selfish POS like you in my group. I just kick you and replace you with the other 10000000000000000000000000000000 DPS spamming to get into a group.

You are nothing special, sit down.

I think if there is a random locked chest in a dungeon find out who has the power to open it and roll to see who is going to get the honor of opening it.

The winner of the roll get’s the loot. If they wish to share the loot, that’s great! If they don’t wish to share the loot, that’s fine as well.

I think would be just as excited as the opener to see what was found.

I just think there is more pressing things to be concerned.

Rogues should just refuse to open them, imagine being the only miner DM:N and people start demanding you share the arcane crystals with them. It is insane. People like you are greedy and seem to think you are entitled to everything. If you wanted the chest or node, you should have leveled the appropriate professions or class to access it, then roll against the person.

get your existence out of my classic community.

ok, then you can tank and heal your way to the chest too then :stuck_out_tongue:

On second thought this isn’t any more ridiculous than tanks charging money or in vanilla how everyone expected enchanters to DE and everyone rolls. Thank god the DE roll didn’t make it back this time around.
