HOT TAKE Calia is totally fine as a character as long as they don’t go in the direction of her killing Forsaken race fantasy via bringing undead into the Alliance.

There is almost no path for Calia that doesn’t involve killing some part of the Forsaken race narrative.

Questing to get to mechagon is fun ! You have to repair some machinery and help Overspark
Spoiler : King Mechagon is a racist and killed all non gnome tinkers 
Imagine for a moment what happens if Calia just makes everything worse and part of the Alliance goes rogue to kill or attack her. Or if she goes rogue and the Alliance’s trust in the undead drops even further.

Man, I just saw a depressing thought.
Imagine being a Blood Elf fan. You’re still wound up about the Purge because of how terribly it was handled.
A character is introduced who speaks to your core. Who confronts Jaina about her role in it.
“Finally!” You say to yourself. “The Purge will be avenged!”
Then you’re railroaded in to killing the only NPC that’s cared about it in three expansions.
