PSA you can get banned for doing objectives in Battlegrounds. Your best bet is to deathball with everyone, and defend nothing because if a group of angry neckbeards reports you for not playing their way you get auto suspended for 30 days and then they auto reduce that to 7 without a real ticket evaluation. Leaving you to still have to appeal being falsely banned because people are mad you’re doing objectives which contribute to winning, more honor, more rep, more achievement credit, more xp. Is this real life?
Your response is trolling… How exactly can one predict how many people will or will not come to defend said tower? And to your point of if 10 to 20 people come to defend that tower what is any player to do at that point? HOWEVER if I turn that tower and hold it. EVERYONE IN THE BATTLEGROUND GETS 200 BONUS HONOR. AV is a game of objectives that grant additional honor, xp, reputation, and achievements. Have you not played one before, or have a basic grasp on how it’s worked since forever?
I’m sorry but the fact a blue post said that about BG participation honestly just makes me mad. It doesn’t matter what the meta is. It doesn’t matter what the group does. The freaking towers are there and they ARE objectives. They give honor and contribute to the team. I’m not there to play how the majority wants me to play. I pay my monthly sub the last time I checked. I’m there to play how I want and if anyone abuses the report system over that then THEY are the ones that should get punished. Not me for playing the game. Honestly I feel like they don’t understand their own game sometimes and the people who play it. To try to define participation in a BG this way is just bizarre to me. If Blizzard is trying to define participation in AV as just zerging with the group then honestly whats the point in playing BGs anymore? It worries me to think that someone could get reported and punished for not playing how what is mentioned in that blue post.
And yes, defending a tower by yourself IS participating.
Honestly I don’t care that he’s an official voice for blizzard or even if he’s THE guy to make these decisions. Defending a tower solo is not participation? This is just wrong. Again I dont care if he’s the one who even decides this stuff, that’s just wrong and dumb.
Games literally can and have been won from solo players backcapping stealthily.

You have absolutely no evidence for that. They’ve not released the ratio of legitimate bans, vs the ones from their apparently faulty initial analysis.
Just like I can’t say for sure how many legitimately wronged people are making threads to complain, but you better believe that some percentage, maybe including OP, ate a ban for AFKing, but are still seeking sympathy from the forums. It’s a tale as old as time, especially when legitimate bans are mixed in with ones that got overturned, it inspires them to play on the notion that one false ban, means they were all false.
I played 20+ hours of AV, and wasn’t banned even temporarily. Much of that was playing as a 61, some was leveling from 66 to 70. But none of it was me seeking out loopholes to afk, I continued to move around and do things, even while guarding towers. I explicitly avoided afking on noob hill outside drek’s room. I didn’t go to the harpy cave, and I didn’t “defend” our base from start to finish.
See, there is this thing called “innocence until proven guilty” and I prefer to side with the customer against a corporation with a history, when they don’t provide proof that people were guilty of any wrong doing, especially when not clearly defined. Plus, they have been reversing many of the bans so clearly, Blizzard is at fault for allowing this much collateral damage. With Blizzards constant string of scandals its hilarious that they still get the benefit of the doubt from some.
And people wonder why I refused to do Battlegrounds to grind honor for easy epics on my alts. Lol.
No thanks, I’m not going to get crushed, tossed back to the base of our, map and attempt to back cap people ignoring towers only to get reported because people can’t fathom the idea you’d die and be sent back to the absolute start of the game because of how graveyards were capped.
Defending towers is a Legit. There is no arguement against it, it’s literally the functionality of the battleground.
That’s like saying your afking if you are wandering around the gold mine in arathis basin to keep people from capturing it, just because for 20 seconds no alliance shows up to contest it.
People were not getting actioned because of reports. The only automated portion of the process, is getting flagged, which kicks you, if you fail to enter PvP combat. This probably still flags you for review down the road, but people were being banned due to their analyzing your behavior over multiple games.
They’re right lipped about the criteria, and what they analyze, but it’s probably some combination of how much time you spent totally idle, your damage/healing average over a span of games, and if you’re doing the same thing over and over to a high degree of accuracy. It’s anecdotal, but people who always ran south. Never capping, and rarely engaging in combat, so they could sit at afk hill in front of drek’s room, would look incredibly bad, if they got a streak of losses where they didn’t even engage Drek.
