PSA! Shadowlands Leveling Warning! Don’t get stuck grinding!

Some of us like doing quests. I did the “Threads of Fate” in beta and found it to be an unending slog and grind. No one likes running around in circles killing mobs to try and level.

Mm, probably more like before the most recent patch. I think they streamlined it a bit very recently.

But keep in mind I’m someone who avoids sidequests like the plague. It’s not an “Every main story quest is a wall” situation either. It’s just here and there.

Sort of. The zone order is Bastion -> Maldraxxus -> Ardenweald -> Revendreth.

There are breakpoints in each zone that will not allow you to pick up the next quest until you hit the required level. The one in Bastion is at 53, the one in Revendreth is at 60. iv’e never hit the Maldraxxus or Ardenweald ones so my info about those are less firm, but they do exist. I think they are 55 (maybe 54 now) in Maldraxxus and 57 in Ardenweald.

You can’t just leave one zone and head to the next when you think you have leveled enough. You have to progress the campaign in order to get the guys in Oribos to make a flightpoint for you.

You also have to do the campaign to unlock endgame systems.

If you sit in Oribos and queue BG to 60, you will still have to do the whole campaign in order to unlock endgame systems.

And again, this is just for your first toon to go through Shadowlands leveling. Finishing the campaign unlocks the alternative leveling path.

XP from PvP will help you reach break-points. PvP will not help you do anything at all with the required campaign.

NEWEST EDIT: It’s just been confirmed on WowHead that the Draught of Ten Lands will not work for level 50 toons. I guess some people were abusing them in party sync and now they are disabled for everyone.

EDIT!: I just checked on the “Draught of Ten Lands” the ones I thought would work. They are marked in the beta as requiring level 50 or below. The Disclaimer does not display until you are over the level limit.

SO… You could pop one as you start leveling and it will help you get to 51 faster, but they will be useless after that.

I believe some do, the ones you buy with tokens. not 100% sure on that, I never tried them. I was focused on what those who tried to do just the campaign would experience, not trying to powerlevel.

It is separated, but they still count towards the 25. AFAIK that limit has not been changed. At no time did I hit the limit.

It felt weird the first few times it happened to me until I realized why they did it.

Warmode. Leveling players using chromie time will never see a level 50 player. If they PvP it’s with each other.

I always do all the quests on my first run. So I do not expect it to be super fast.

I’m just going to do all the quests. That leveling gear transmog isn’t going to collect itself.

First: This is one of the most useful posts I’ve seen on this forum since I can remember.

Second: How easy/practical is it to go back and forth between the various zones and your city (Stormwind/Org) while on rails the first time through?

You’ll need to visit Oribos and the Maw a couple of times while leveling.

This is still news to folks? Interesting because this isnt new.

I have beta . Its not a big deal. You come very close with campaign quests and minimal side quests. But i always do every quest i can first run through so i never really think about it.

First good post here in literally ages, thank you

Very easy. One of the things you do in Oribos before setting out to Bastion, is to set up portals back to your home cities portal rooms. In the portal rooms right now, you can see the place waiting to be used for an Oribos portal.

Seems a lot like bfa. I don’t recall being able to hit 120 with the campaign and loremaster stories alone. This will at least be easier as we don’t have 2 different storylines to look through and the info will actually be at the ready instead of having to look through wowhead for what you need versus what you don’t.

Sounds to me like a good opportunity to grab some guildies and queue up for a dungeon / bg or 2 to catch up, then go back to questing rinse and repeat. I’ll be pulling an all nighter at release anyway so I’m sure there will be times where I don’t feel like banging my head against the masses of people anyway.

Since Alliance and Horde will do the same thing in Shadowlands to level up…
I won’t activate WM on in week one because I know it will be full of hordies like in Icecrown, I rather take it easy, still I have no hurry.

The Maw intro is PvP disabled, so WM bonus during that first level or so is without risk. Since all of Oribos is a rested area, you can leave it on until you are just about to leave to the first real zone.

I think the xp potions from bfa, if they work, will help those purely looking to do less grind through side quests.

That being SAID, the side quests give some great story, and if you skip, you may miss out on something good, aside from the experience (not xp, the experience) that Shadowlands has to offer.

Just my thoughts on the bfa xp potions, though.

I just checked on the Draught of Ten Lands, the ones you buy with service medals.

Went to buy some with a lvl 54 on the beta. They are marked as requiring level 50 and below.

SO… they will help you level faster from 50-51, but no further. If you have some, or some spare medals, not a terrible idea to pop one before you head into the Maw intro, but they won’t be wortwhile after that.

non scaling content…dare i hope blizzard has regained some of their senses? scaled content sucks. although the rest of this sounds pretty boring. i hate being basically told how to level by the developers hand holding me and forcing to level their way.

Green quests give the same amount of exp as if you did them at yellow. Your exp bar is just bigger at higher levels so it gives less %, but the actual exp doesn’t change.

I am pretty sure that is not true. Each XP point does move the bar less each level, as the total needed for the next level increases every time you level up. This is true.

But, the XP awarded from a quest that is turned in at green will be lower than if turned in at yellow. Even lower if turned in at gray.

Last I checked, most Bastion side quests are gray to a toon at lvl 59

On my main, I do every quest.

I won’t even finish third zone by the time I hit max level…
