When I was a kid, the grocery stores would have complete sets of Encyclopedias and they never had all the volumes so you had to keep going back to get the ones you missed before the promotion ended or risk an incomplete set.

As a tailor, i can totally understand vendoring the ‘basic’ silk; but once you start getting the “thick” and “shadow” silks, they are most certainly worth pitting on the AH. they are used in quite a few tailoring recipes, but also LW/eng; so you’ll at least earn double or more than the vendor.
Considering auctions can sell while your offline, IE passive income; its literally stupid to pretend that the AH is a waste of your time. Always google every white item, and check the AH before you consider vendoring it.
Other notable items: large fangs, wicked claws, vibrant plumes, light feathers, etc… all worth double or triple on the AH.
Helped me earn 95g by lvl 39 to secure mount ASAP. and, ive bought gear and trained most skills.
on my server it auctions for vendor price, except the ironweb. I just vendor em. plenty available

On my server its at vendor price ++ coppers. The tailor item is selling below vendor /facepalm. Held onto a couple of extras until I absolutely was out of space. This was yesterday, same pricing issue.
