PSA for Bear Tanks

tork wrench is another good held in off hand option if you’re horde and didn’t do the quest and vendor it already :stuck_out_tongue:

Twig of the World Tree is the poor mans Warden Staff

I hope they do it a la EQ? (I believe) when one expansion releases on the first servers released, they release new classic servers to start progression. If they just leave classic up after p6 and never touch it those servers will be dead dead.

as long as they do something like merge existing servers and then add some new fresh ones i’d be good. prefer to keep my progress and be able to log onto my toon when i want. I see no purpose in playing these if i end up losing all my progress on a whim of the devs.

they’ve diablo’d retail enough. if i wanted to play hardcore diablo with regular reset of my toons and gear, i’d go play that.

heck, a better idea would be to go full diablo seasons. just add seasonal servers to wow with some ridiculous gimmicks that reset every 3-12 months or whatever is decided as good for the expansion they pick at the time.

hopefully that’ll make em leave me and my classic toons alone.

psssst - druid tanks, want to know a little known secret?

Buy this: https://classic.wowhead.com/item=12252/staff-of-protection

It’ll last you quite a while as beartank. 100 armor, some decent resistances.

Sold from a vendor in Booty Bay for 6gold. I bought mine at level 30 or so as soon as I had the gold, kept it in bank until 34.

On fights where I need a ton of mitigation, like when I facepulled 2-3 groups of SM armory the other night, I still throw this bad boy on.

Got one better for Alliance druids than Stitches's Femur called Totem of Infliction, also from Duskwood. You just need a good 1H to go with it. Same stats as the femur, but also has a proc that happens when you take damage that does in fact proc in bear.

I’m currently pairing this up with a Ardent Custodian, which I was able to scoop up for ridiculously cheap when the server was younger. It’s no Warden Staff, but it won’t be replaced during phase 1.

OMFG I love you OP. This is literally been my main problem. It’s like you read my mind.

Pretty much traded flurry axe for wardens and got another 25g on top of it.

I never said Druids can’t tank. I said that a serious Druid tank - one that knows his stuff and isn’t trying to be a special snow flake who wants to try “just because” - will have that staff. That player will save up for it and buy it, precisely for the mitigation and not to burden a raid or group by being a squishy mana sponge…If you don’t like that then go play BFA where everything is easy mode and handed to you at the end of every LFG dungeon.

The thing is you can be armor capped without it, so why is it so necessary?

If you don’t like that go play BFA…

Wow… what a cool guy you are huh?
How dare someone disagree with you and let you know they think you are completely wrong… Sure you are a joy to work and live with in RL…

Druid armor is insane compared to warriors and they do not even come close to needing a warden staff to be a top flight tank…

As Aewendil said: “The thing is you can be armor capped without it, so why is it so necessary?”

LOL… one that knows his stuff huh? Sounds like you have a warden staff and you are trying to drum up the price to gouge someone…

give me a break…

As a druid it is absolutely pointless to save up that much gold for regular flying, you get flight form at level 68 for like 15g and that includes the riding skill for flying mounts with it.

You can get that much gold from a single quest in outland.

I’d like to understand this better, so I have a few questions I’m hoping you can answer.

How is your damage as a bear determined if not using the weapons DPS? I guess I’m not sure exactly what “normalized” means.

Does weapon DPS matter in cat form?

And lastly, does weapon SKILL work into the equation somewhere? I noticed that my weapon skill isn’t going up and I’ve been wondering if I should go beat on low level mobs to raise it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Your dps is a flat dps with a fixed attack speed in your two animal forms of bear and cat. Bears have a 2.5 attack speed (i think) and cats have a 1.0 attack speed. Your dps is fixed and then is only affected by your melee attack power. Your weapon skill is fixed as well and goes up by 5 when you level (in other words, it doesn’t use say unarmed skill, and as you notice when in animal forms you never see a weapon skill up).

So a hypothetical 15 dps green staff with +45 str is far better than a hypothetical 100dps legendary staff with +20 str.

Meh… until the price goes below 200 (maybe 150,) I’d probably sell it if one drops. It’s got by far the least best-in-slottiness of all the best-in-slots.

If I could pick one up for under 100, I might equip it, but I’d probably try to flip it, first.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t unyielding maul with an iron counterweight be better than warden staff until phase 3 gives us +15 agi enchant? Since the two are so close for mitigation it seems like 3% atk speed would be better for the rage generation and maul speed.

Literally every server I’ve been on (4 at this point) has Krol Blades, warden staves, hand cannons etc. For under 300g. Honestly 300g is overpaying for it, there are usually 3+ on the AH at any given time.

I think people have yet to realize that people aren’t stupid anymore. Why overpay when you can wait 4 hours for 2 more to pop up on the AH for 250? Even Edgemaster handguards have gone as low as 150g on 2 servers.

This is not true… for some reason your weapon skill is still the skill of what you have equipped…so you still need to grind those weapon skills up.

This is easily tested in game

How do you test it? I haven’t swung a weapon since level 10, my weapon skills are abysmally low, and yet i still hit in my forms almost all the time. If I were to attack a mob out of a form i’d never hit it!
