Eh, if I make it to naxx I’ll upgrade my threat gear in AQ40 and use that mostly, i’m not MT, i don’t really need the mitigation, and if I make to to Naxx my guild is giving me an Atiesh to take into TBC, where gearing is much more fun.
I’m honestly halfway to quitting right now though, MC is a snoozefest and BWL isn’t much better so we have at LEAST a year of zzzzzz

You don’t need Warden Staff or Ardent Custodian to have competitive stats. Warden Staff is BiS, but not required.
FFS with this discussion, yeah Warden Staff is BiS, for some people that’s worth paying for it and for others it’s not, different players have different goals as simple as that. If you feel you absolutely must have it then be thankful some players don’t value it as highly otherwise it would be even more expensive.
As long as you have a good alternative it’s fine. There has always been some form of BiS items and sure they are nice but it’s never required to have the absolute best at everything, you gain a lot more from just getting better at the game than from a minor small % upgrade to your gear.
Well said honestly, if one drops I’m not going to NOT use, it IS BiS, but i’m not going to go out of my way for a such a minor upgrade.

Blizzard better not force TBC (again!) on my classic characters. Let’s not make that mistake again. I don’t care about TBC but for those that do, make them separate servers.

First of all, what you’re suggesting is awful. A green monkey stick would be better. Secondly, there’s numerous good stat stick 2hs you can get out of dungeons.

Tome of Knowledge from the Archivist in Strat live is BiS for offhands. As far as mainhands pick up Ardent Custodian from the AH for 25g
You do more threat than Warden and will get other benefits such as dodge, armor from agi, crit, and AP
I MT’ed Ony and OTed MC without it. Ardent custodian and Tome of Knowledge are more than enough. I’m sure Twig would’ve done just fine too

Discredit it? No. Be a reason to not drop 400g on an item? Absolutely. Unyielding maul is basically Warden Staff, Buy yourself consumes for the next 3 months of raids instead with the 400g you saved instead and you’ll be a better druid in literally every way.
Or just get your epic mount
I don’t get why people are still claiming bears can tank. You be better off doing dual wield fury/prot. Better threat, better dps, better cool downs. Easier to gear. It’s a no brainier.

Totem of Infliction is better for Alliance bears. Quest reward off-hand that procs damage on being hit like a shield spike, and has the same armor.

armor is usually weighted at .23 per point giving a 50 armor offhand a value of 11.5
Tome is 8 all stats. Str = 1 Agi ~1.6 Stam = 1

With all things considered, if you can’t get Warden Staff or don’t want to, Ardent Custodian and Tome of Knowledge are second best possible right now, with about 2/3rd of the tanking value.
If that last 1/3rd is worth 400g then by all means get it.
otherwise unyielding maul provides 95% of the tanking value Warden does for free when DM drops
And once you have your epic mount?
I can’t think of many things much more useful than a weapon which will be your BIS for, let’s face it, what is likely to be close to 6 months.
Sooo… only warriors can tank raids but dr00ds are simply not tanks without a Warden staff…

This is not true. In AQ our scaling starts capping off and we have to shed Armor for Stamina and TPS stats because our present scaling is off the charts. Snag Atal’ai Spaulders and you’re wearing a piece of gear that is the equivalent of 977 Armor in Dire Bear Form with Thick Hide. The highest Armor any Plate item can ever have is 722 from Tier 3, or 794 with Toughness.
There’s a lot of swing in our stats right now because if you go heavy TPS, you lose quite a bit of Armor and Stamina, but that’s just fine, nothing really threatens any Tank that isn’t playing or spec’d stupidly. Once BWL hits, we can bridge the EH and TPS gear sets a lot more with amazing pieces like Taut Dragonhide Shoulders and Boots of Shadowflame.
We scale fantastically, we just get fewer pieces between MC and BWL than Warriors while being compensated for starting waaaaaaaaay ahead of them with a modicum of 5man farming.
