Proving Grounds, Mage Tower, Brawler's Guild

Went back in time to WOD and started setting up my Garrison because I missed that expansion and felt like pretending my main has a place to live and is not just a murderhobo. While setting up the Proving Grounds from MOP popped up and I hopped in (missed most of MOP too).

Fun times ensued!

WHY are these proving grounds not a thing anymore? Stuff like proving grounds, mage tower, and brawler’s guild make for some awesome solo content.

They all show that you can play your class and can conquer multiple different mechanics. They help people PRACTICE more complicated encounters outside of group PvE where you feel bad if you flop and let the team down. And finally, they are an ACCOMPLISHMENT for solo players like me who don’t do much group content.

Seriously, the most fun I had in Legion was getting my one Mage Tower skin. If I had played MOP seriously I would have tried the proving grounds on multiple toons. In Vanilla I got rank 10 on my hunter and these challenges feel like a continuation of the personal accomplishments.

Seems like great content that should be included in every expansion. Can anyone explain why it’s not around anymore (yes I know the new Brawler’s is about to drop, so stoked!)?

Expansion specific content. Blizzard feels the need to scrap it all for next expansion to do something else, for god knows why.

Well, coming from someone who has almost all mage tower skins, did fairly well in the MoP challenge modes, and got to level 9 of the brawlers guild when it first dropped …

And having not a single piece of the dungeon challenge modes (which required relying on other people) …

I think having solo content like that is amazing. I play with others as much as I need to, but I don’t go out of my way. I feel much more accomplished doing it on my own.

Hopefully they’ll continue something like this going forward. Maybe do something for both groups.

I think there’s a good chance of it returning in BfA. I remember them saying the Mage Tower was very popular that they’re open to doing something like it again.

There isn’t one now, but we still have a whole bunch of patches left in BfA. I’d be surprised if a similar challenge didn’t appear at some point later on.

Mage Tower wasn’t released until late Legion. So any BFA version of it won’t be released till late BFA also, I am sure.

I expect, though, the challenge mode content this expansion to be more group based.

Exactly. You just described why I prefer solo play. Also, I get to skip the drama of “group projects”.

Grats on all your accomplishments!

If you are regularly running into drama in groups, I’d look at the common factor.

I’m not.

I just prefer solo play in WoW for the same reason I don’t like group projects in work/school. If I feel like doing group PvE I do. When I don’t, I don’t.

I misunderstood, my apologies. I get you now.
