Prot Pally Int or Str

Ok, quick question for y’all.

Why do prot pally’s use strength? Your threat comes from holy damage which isn’t modified by your strength so what’s the point? Wouldn’t it be better to have more int to keep using your holy damage abilities?

Strength provides additional block value per point, and while not much it still also provides higher damage from your white swings which does still translate to TPS. And most items that aren’t a random piece of green gear with stats, intellect based gear is very hard to come by with high stamina values, let alone in plate form.

But I mean, I’m pretty sure 300 Str equates to only like 15 block, which seems pretty much worthless compared to keeping up holy shield and consecrate for triple the amount your normally could.

Even 300 Str doesn’t seem like it’d be enough of a dmg increase/threat increase to be worth it.

Int, no mana no threat, prot is pretty much just a dungeon/PVP spec at 60 though.

And you overlook what I mentioned as the big deciding fact. Please provide me plate that is readily available with intellect and stamina values that are not random green pieces. They are few and far between.

Yeah I know. Wish they would just add a taunt already and tell the no changes crowd to get over it.

Theres plenty of plate with int and stam in the game, lol, what you mean is plate with +def int, and stam.

Oh I know itemization is always an issue. It is for all the hybrids. However, I see people saying to Str/Stam for leveling prot too, which just seems wrong.

Please provide me with this ample amount of plate. My healing Paladin in mostly mail, leather, and some cloth would love to have it all.

Leveling really doesn’t matter how you gear, just don’t like wear cloth.

I dunno, having triple the mana I normally would sounds pretty nice. Much better than the tiny ap gain from STr

Edit: and your healing gear is prioritizing spell crit and healing power sooo yeah it’s not just stam/int you’re looking for which is what he was saying.

You need Blue Rage, so some Int is needed outside of base Intellect plus Divine Intellect’s bonus. You won’t get defense capped, though, without stacking strength as little to no gear has Int and defense. You don’t need the defense cap to dungeon tank.

Stamina stacking, though, should be #1 on the list, as most of a Paladin’s threat relies on being hit (Holy Shield, Sanctuary, Ret Aura).

Like literally anything of the eagle, then Shaman King chest from LBRS, Slag shoulders in BRD, most of the LF set, all of our raid gear, also a few not tier plate in BWL, lol.
