Prot looks pretty bleak

After watching some beta videos and reading the beta feedback on prot, im incredibly sad. It feels like my favorite spec is just getting gutted and made terrible to play.

Losing DR from consecrate based on mastery and getting less than half back via the talent, less block chance, no more CD reduction for defensive based on holy power use, WoG healing for even less than live.

Feels like im gonna have to find a new main at this point. Maybe being a delve hero it won’t affect me that badly, I guess I’ll see in midnoght.

I do not know for the love of me why people find that mechanic appealing.

It’s constricting for movement in a game that became ever increasingly dynamic.

The CDR gameplay is flawed, while it seems to be a good idea on paper, it doesn’t mix well in the WoW paradigm.

It is more fitting of a ARPG like PoE or Diablo where balance concerns aren’t rigid.

The idea behind it is to be able to maintain the CD uptime or reduce it’s downtime as much as you can.
But it needs to be done in a way that lets it be a legitimate tank throughout every patches of the expansion.

That means that on day 1, the uptime of said CD needs to be high enough to be the loose equivalent of all other tanks and then it only get stronger.

Which means it needs to be nerfed as time goes on in an expac to prevent the spec to become overbearing.

Which is exactly what they did just before S2 of TWW when they nerfed it.
Luckily they didn’t need to touch it any further for S3.
And what do you know it’s the second most played tank in S3 in 20s+.

All that being said, it’s not that in a great shape now, but at least it can now start to be tuned outside of those frustrating mechanics.

Its so squishy (in midnight beta) that its pretty much not a tank anymore

Yea, thats what I’ve heard. Folds over like wet tissue paper in a stiff breeze.

Its just sad. All they had to do was bring up baseline tankyness and nerf some active mitigation (if at all). Having tanks be different is what makes them fun and apart from each other. Prot having all its cdr removed just turns it into a worse, less fun version. Guess Ill just use my other alts to tank over paladin.

It’s not that I find the mechanic appealing its that they nerfed it by over half, tied it to a talent and did very little to make up for the difference. It’d be fine if they nerfed it so we didnt have to spend time in consecrate all the time and then buffed something else to make up for it, but its nerfs across the board.

I miss the glyph that made your consecrate move with you.(at least I think it was a glyph, been a while)

Ok but that’s tuning though.

That’s my point, this specific gameplay is going away and what’s next to do is to tune what they have now so that it makes sense.

Sure now it feels bad but they had to start somewhere with this iteration.

It’s not self-evident what should be the starting value of all these replacement and they’re better starting it lower than to have everyone melt down because they started to high and need to nerf it.

design wise prot sucks

because its very clearly being designed for mythic dungeons in mind mroe than raiding. it does 0 st damage and everything it has cleaves for free. its design for st mostly boils down to “con does double damage if you have one target” yes it loses this benefit the moment a new target appears. avenging shield sucks and it getting hopo generation back as a apex talent is a slap in the face

overal again, prot paladin has mega issues and tuning is a part of it

Say that again twice over.

Really salty about that apex.

Convoluted way to give it back as well, just makes it confusing.

Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t…
Makes planning around for your HP needlessly random.

Coming from a prot pvp angle the spec feels simplified but even more underpowered. It’s riddled with negative modifiers from past xpacs leaving things like WoG as laughable healing for what it cost and what it should do. Single target is meh most the time and you take tons of damage. I know it’s different than the perspective of most, but a lot of what it’s had in the past isn’t there. Would love the ability to forgo some aoe for more single target or more throughput in some way. It feels less engaging on beta than I’d like.

Just a little weird with what I take to be a very Paladin / Light focused expansion that they do so poorly with the paladin tuning for prot.

They did explain why. Did you not see the expansion’s cinematic?

Liandrin have to go back to Bliz….. i mean the Sunwell for more buf…. i mean help.
