Proposed way to save corruption system

corruption is fine.

Raelhorn might be on to something there with seperating it from the gear, or at least making it a per slot choice once you’ve unlocked them, but with essences in the game as well, they kind of already overdid it with menus with options in them. perhaps if they bothered to do a bit of work on it they could fix it, but they’ve already moved on to shadowlands, so fine, but i swear to god if they just take corruption and slap a new word on it for shadowlands without learning a single thing from it, we will all be begging for tf back… which might be the intent… god i hope that isnt the intent.

Make it only work in pve

All pve and pvp weapons have set rank3 corruption

All greens/blues have a chance to proc rank 1
All purples have a chance to proc rank 2

weekly chests guarantee a rank2 proc.

numbers adjusted accordingly and corruption proc chance significantly increased.

Weapons are now BiS and the rest is just slight damage boosts that are not 23% of your dps.

Let’s be honest. They weren’t attempting to reduce rng. If they had been they wouldn’t have implemented corruption. Maybe if they do away with anything like corruption in shadowlands will we have a reduced rng gearing system.

I would disagree. The whole gearing system in BFA was designed for hardcore players that will do anything and everything for bis.

Azeritre farming, farming pearls til the socketed benethic piece was created and now corruption gear.

The gear from world quests is useless unless it has a chance at corruption. The no-lifers were farming WQ gear the first few weeks… otherwise any decent player is not doing world quests outside the emissary.

Great there is plenty of useless loot that “falls from the sky” but it either ends up in the scrapper or the vendor.

It doesnt matter anyways unless you mythic raid or run high level keys, level scaling makes loot outside of these 2 activities pointless.

Gear that offers risk and reward is a cool system on paper, but like we saw with the Crucible Gear, people are never going to take a risk with their gear unless the reward is ridiculously absurd.

Corruption massively overdid the reward to the point where we’re at the point where having the right corruptions and good RNG matters far more than actually being good at the game, with Corruptions often making up 20-30% of peoples damage.

The Dark Legacy comic highlights the absurdity of it fairly well.

As the filthiest of casuals I say yes AND no to this.
YES- casuals would be happy with a deterministic system, but not like the old vanilla system with one set reward. IMO casuals want a currency/vendor system to supplement the standard set reward system.
NO- but whatever system it is needs to be open ended. Something like the Benthis system, or the MoP valor upgrades. But if its capped then it will fail, since as soon as someone reaches the top limit there’s no longer incentive to play. And it needs to be capped well above LFR levels. I’m sorry but most casuals ARE NOT INTERESTED in organized raiding and will go play something else when we’ve hit that “character progression” ceiling.

Just give us a Kanai’s Cube since they want to keep porting over all these Diablo systems. If we could bank and reroll corruptions, it’d address the a bunch of issues I have with the system.

Best idea in this thread.

I don’t think it even should be saved.
Let it die with bfa, titanforging, corruption, azerite, any ap grind.

I too think that the idea of my gear turning on me it’s brilliant.

Tell me about it. Even after you get the corruptions their efficacy varies dramatically from pull to pull–even in the exact same fight!

It’s kind of an asinine system.

Update: Got ANOTHER surging vitality in my m+ cache today. That’s one more useless piece of gear I can add to the pile! Blizzard please learn from the legendary system in legion… Corruption is the exact same thing. It’s a requirement for player power, yet we have no control over what we get.

Ion is very good at giving a lot of reasons why something might have been done. I never look at that as the actual reason though… For that you’ve got to look at the results.

They did that for Legion legendaries and people were really happy with it. They should do this, it would at least show their intent to not continue down the extreme rng road for the next xpac. The way things are now, it’s hard to justify spending money on SL.

expansion is over, just wait for shadowlands, only % based fixes by skeleton crew from now on

Let people sacrifice corruption items for a currency they can use to buy a desired corruption effect. Treat it like the old leg and shoulder buffs were treated application wise. The exchange does t have to be stellar, but it’d be better than getting void ritual for the umpteenth time.

its bad enough if we have to endure this til shadowlands, but people need to consider that this is probably the sandbox for FUTURE stuff as well. offering them ways of improving it might be our only hope of not having corruption 2.0 (literally a carbon copy, not modified) in shadowlands. in its present form its so bad that if they could just kill it and come up with something better next time id argue to do so, but what else is there other than this or tf? well theres the third option of old days style gear and difficulties, but that just isnt happening so…
