It was a fairly cold night as the moon shone down on Sunfall manor as Dr. Kalithos Sunfall tossed and turned in his sleep, his subconscious mind taking place in what appeared to be the Plague lands. He walked down the road as he came across a shadow of two familiar figures from his days active in the Argent Crusade causing Kalithos’ eyes to go wide with horror “No…it can’t be,when that campaign ended you were cremated so Darak couldn’t turn you…” The argent human and tauren who were victims to the death knight appeared to have become ones themselves as they approached the boy with malice in their eyes charging runeblades in hand as they slashed down. Kalithos quickly drew his shield and jumped back to evade the blade “Snap out of it,why are you doing this?!” He staggered back from the impact of the blow as the sound of swords clashing and shields blocking could be heard “You think yourself strong but we’re this way now because you wouldn’t submit to our new lord! You promised to help us escape but now look at us!!” Kali went flying back as he was caught off guard for the turned human to knock him back with monstrous strength causing his glasses to fall off upon impact and as he staggered, managed to barely dodge the next attack “This is YOUR FAULT,YOUR FAULT FOR BEING SUCH A SOFT WEAKLING.”
Kalithos swallowed hard as he began to exchange blows of his own with his blade tears welling in his eyes “I wanted to go back for you,I wanted us to get out of captivity together,I underestimated the magnitude of our ordeal and I’m sorry…I’m sorry…” His voice cracked as he struck with his sword one more time “I couldn’t save you and I regret it every day… I wasn’t any match for Darak and I’m so-” his sentence cut short as a fist struck hard and fast to his sternum followed by a familiar necrotic energy encircling his neck causing him to drop his sword.
A familiar face stepped out of the shadows causing the good doctor’s eyes to go wide with horror “D-Darak…” “Wasn’t? Boy,you never were a match for me,if you had only accepted your fate that day, your comrades wouldn’t have suffered and now, you’re going to share their fate and when I’m done, everyone you’ve ever cared for will die…perhaps even by your hands…” Kalithos struggled to free himself,to counteract the necrotic energies with his light but Darak’s saronite armor put a stop to that attempt rather quickly “I’m going to enjoy this, your transition will be slow and very painful, punishment for undermining my efforts against the living.” As the blade of Darak’s sword aimed for his vitals,Kalithos shot up from the nightmare, awakening in a cold sweat. He hugged his knees doing his best to hold back tears only for his husband to startle him by placing his good hand over his shoulder “Kali, everything okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Rethandral pulled the smaller elf into a sit up embrace as he gently brushed away Kalithos’ tears with his mechanical hand kissing his forehead. “I had that nightmare again, everytime winter is near I keep having the same damned nightmare from my days in the Argent Crusade. I keep trying to reassure myself that my comrades weren’t turned yet the guilt that they even died weighs upon me. It’s my fault they died Reth,I wasn’t strong enough and it cost me two lives who placed their faith in me.”
Rethandral looked down at Kalithos with his good eye his gaze stern, yet held some gentle nature “Kali, you can’t keep blaming yourself for what happened, that abomination of a human the way you described to me was a gods damned sadist, you did what you could and that entire ordeal wasn’t your fault, that softness you’re mocked for? Is one of your most endearing features and shows you have a good heart. Since then you’ve grown so much and you know something? I’m proud of you everyday, dearheart.” Rethandral gently ruffled Kalithos’ long black hair as he gave a small grin. “Now,let’s get back to sleep, bastard comes near you again dreams or otherwise will have to answer to me.” The two laid back down and before closing his eyes Kali meekly spoke “Reth?”
“Yeah?”
He gave a smile of relief before drifting back to sleep “Thank you…” The larger elf gave a grin drifting off holding Kalithos in a protective embrace “Always Kali, always and forever.”
