Honestly, you'll level past anything you can make that's pre 60 in half the time it would take you to either farm the mats or farm the gold to buy the mats. In vanilla, nobody bothered with crafting skills until high level anyway cause you'd be broke. At launch, mats are going to be insane too. Only "crafting" skill remotely worth taking at launch is enchanting, so you can DE drops.
Just training your skills in vanilla took almost all your gold, to the point that when you hit level 40, you usually didn't have the gold for a mount. It was never worth it to craft gear while leveling in vanilla, with the possible exceptions of bags, bandages, and enchants. You would be better off taking two gathering skills and selling those mats.
