Private Servers

It was 100% Private servers that brought about Classic. You are mentally deficient if you think otherwise. Literally the first ever update in regards to classic wow on the forums had a private server name in its title. Also nobody has ever said private servers are completely accuarate. That’s just a straw man

Because many private server players have 8-100 days /played on the latest vanilla meta. This results in a very firm understanding of the game and the potential impact of various choices by the Classic team.

So for those who lack that substantial experience it’s easier to devalue it than to admit “I know less about this subject at the current time.”

Naturally, elitism and impatience can also come into play from those who have that substantial experience. In short, they’re mostly just protective of the game and feel the need to drown out the “please balance all the classes!” “please add LFG queues” posts as swiftly as possible.

Absolute boomer tier response. Nostalrius was 100% the reason we have classic servers. They were meeting with devs of private servers before this forum existing for you to bash private servers on. Settle down, guest.

^ This was the first thing I noticed on a P-server!

Yeah I mean you can look them up if you want but everything I cited happened years and years ago on private servers that may not even have their forums posts up anymore. This is very common knowledge for people who have played these servers for an extended period of time. It is fair to say things were way off, when they were.

Plus the things we don’t know about was admitted by the devs themselves in multiple interviews around the time when they went to go meet up with blizzard.

I remember something to the effect of ion asking them how they scripted certain fights and then laughing and telling them that that’s not how it was scripted because he thought they were scripted different too and looked them up himself when he started working for blizzard.

If you don’t believe me that’s fine because I’m not going to dig around old forums posts to prove something that’s really well known in the community.

Almost every server that came out advertised as “THE FIRST SERVER WITH FIXED XP RATES” or “THE FIRST SERVER WITH WORKING PALADIN SEALS”.

I see i see

Because all of the owners of the private servers are greesy, money-grabbing scoundrels.

Most of the private server players are not good people and think they’re Elune’s gift to Azeroth, and think they alone brought about Classic.

Simple really.

Many people play pservers because of the fact they’re entirely free. You have heard of EA and Activision before right?

We’ll see what happens to private server pop once classic comes out… I know that 15$ is really breaking the bank

Can confirm the majority of players on private servers are out of work Europeans that have a superiority complex about the U.S.A.

“lmao Americans, have fun getting shot when you leave your house!”

“Donations” and “Cash shops” are a thing on PS.

EA & Activision are companies that create the properties they own.

Private servers own nothing, and create nothing. They make money off of the hard work of others. Money-grabbing scoundrels. The Nost team were terrible people, the Elysium team are terrible people. Scapegaming was terrible people.

Private server runners are terrible people.

I agree with you completely, but having said that, the people in charge of EA/ Activision/ Blizzard are just as talentless and money grabbing as the private server owners. The true creators of World of Warcraft are LONG gone.

The biggest problem I have with private servers is some of the people who treat the theorycrafting there as gospel and seem to hate the idea of being challenged that it might not be accurate.

Even if some are more accurate than others, most things from there should be taken with a grain of salt because it’s entirely possible that it’s based on incorrect math.

I pray each night before I go to bed that the glancing blows value on private servers was reduced which will cause melee dps to be somewhat less than what everyone is anticipating… impossible to know though.

That’s hardly quantifiable. I’ve never set foot on a pserver but campaigned just as hard for a return to the features I feel made it a great experience. That argument in particular is a part of why I dislike pserver nonsense.

In addition

  • Pirating the game.
  • Acting like the authors have the game emulated correctly fueling further conjecture.

Because other people are having fun and that isnt allowed.

I don’t know how accurate that is. “Many” players play because it’s fun, not because it’s free. “Many” players contribute to their server to keep it running. And yes, I’m sure “many” players try it and continue playing because it is “free”. these people might not play because servers come and go and they would otherwise lose their investment.

Keep in mind there are many solid “free to play” MMOs out there… Rift, Aion and Guild Wars 2 come to mind… but these people choose to play a private WoW server because… well… it’s as close of rendition of vanilla they are able to find.

Until summer.

It should be important to note that people have been asking for Vanilla SINCE TBC, and again they asked for it in droves after Cataclysm blew the world up… there were hundreds of private servers BEFORE nost.

This whole private server’s are a new thing started post WoD when we had a massive exodus from the game and the urge to play classic was stronger than ever.

Classic wow is not coming out because of private servers… private servers became vastly more popular because blizzard chose to wait so long to release classic. Private servers did not create classic, Blizzard created private servers.

Now, I can’t say I disagree with that. Just speaking of PS owners.

Usually because they tell us how wrong our Vanilla experience was and how everything we remember was different.

While Blizzard proves them wrong with things like Warlock Summons.
