Private Servers Ran Fine.. Now?

lol I remember one rollback several hours on one of those servers. Had just rolled my first toon the day before. Logged in and it was gone lol

WoW chat is like literally the birth place of Trolling. The single worst thing to come from the creation of this game is the insane amount of toxicity it birthed to the civilized world.

Private servers had 1% of Classic WoW’s playerbase.

And that might be an overestimate.

Weren’t they mostly friends-only or invite-only?

Yeah, yeah - go back to your glorified slot machine, then.

Aw, that’s cute - you think this game is the reason people are jerks.

Eh.
Private servers were buggy as hell. Even the most played on servers got ddos’d for days.
Add to that corrupt GMs, favors for $$$, timezone issues, takedowns at anytime, and you have a hot mess.

nosir,
will not go back if blizz is offering us the real deal.

Have you not been paying attention? They have been getting hit with DDOS attacks. You people are pathetic. Seriously.

Then go back to playing on this magical private server you are talking about. I havent had a SINGLE issue with WoW Classic…

At the most i couldnt play for an hour or two

ur bad

Private server vet here. What brand of laundry detergent do you enjoy consuming most? There were so many bugs, scripting issues and server outages on all of them that sometimes while playing classic I’ll just sit back and enjoy the fact imps talk in party chat, or that escorts dont fall through the ground near the end of their path.

Private servers have nothing on classic as far as quality. Nothing.

With private servers you run a 15 year old binary client that connects to internet servers running “whatever”. It’s a security nightmare.

I haven’t lost over half an hour of work because of roll backs 4 times a week.

Classic is much better than private servers

This game was the first place people like that acted out, spread it, and it grew to the rest of the net and eventually broke out of the net to the real world. Deny it all you want. Barrens chat literally ruined the world. LITERALLY!!!

Nah, I’ll give that honour to Something Awful.

They gave us Goon squad

You’re actually insane if you think that.

Biggest difference?

A few thousand players play on a private realm, the vast majority of people don’t even know those servers exist, much less care. The only person looking to DDoS those small servers is some a-hole who got banned from their server.

Blizzard servers? Millions of people, tons of exposure. Seems pretty easy to understand why it might be more difficult to constantly deal with potential attacks for blizzard.

Apparently no one DDOS’d the private servers then?

Idk what you’re talking about Fejer. My server, Incendius, has one of the highest populations on Classic, and I’ve only struggled with lag and other technical issues during the DDOS attacks the last few days.

Spoken like someone with little or no private server experience. A few things to consider…

  1. Private servers absolutely did not run “fine”, if by fine you mean never having log in issues, never getting DDOSed and never going down during prime play hours (since that seems to be your definition of fine). All of those things happen on private servers too.

  2. Private servers had a tiny fraction of the amount of players on them that Classic does. No private servers came even close, and those that had the highest numbers were absolutely plagued by these issues, far worse than Classic has been. Along with other, private server specific, issues that always popped up as well.

  3. Not being able to log in for a few hours hardly makes the game unplayable. Was this weekend the only time you can play WoW this entire month? In the big picture the servers are up and available the vast vast majority of the time. Especially since the cause of the issues this time around is outside attacks, it’s pretty juvenile to blame Blizzard for this one.

  4. A cue is a signal a director gives to actors to let them know it’s time to start their dialogue or action. A queue is a line of people waiting to get into something.
