As excited and gung-ho as I am for Classic, I’ve never been on a private server. And there are a lot of people like me. It really wouldn’t surprise me to see Classic hitting 10million+.
Also I was debating on discord the other day about not having Classic sub altogether with retail and this is why I think it’s a bad idea. They will probably use all that money to keep saying that BFA is still doing great and to make more countless expansions to keep milking their 1-2 million players in retail. But “maybe” maybe they are smarter and if Classic get so popular they do progression servers up to WOTLK. Which I am happy with that. Complete separate progression server from vanilla classic
same. i only play on project 1999 because the owners of everquest have given their approval for it to exist . but i know blizzard doesnt want people playing private servers, so i avoid them like the plague. it’s hard though cause boy i’m excited for classic.
the benefit of having it, is it provides a place for people to farm gold for tokens to pay their subs. that way, classic doesnt need to have token farms
I played on a Private Wrath of the lich King for 4 years. Full of people on the Horde and on the Alliance. It was fun as hell. Although when i found out about classic months ago i stopped playing on X vanilla server because its going to close after original classic release but damn it was fun lol only got to lvl 20 with a warrior orc. Also the funny thing is that is was not an american Pr server it was Fully latino community, full of it
damn i keep trying to post pictures and the website stills tells me i can’t i wonder how many post I need to do for the trust thing to work it’s frustrating
They will use Classic to pad BFA and w/e future comes to WoW. I’m okay with it as long as they don’t add microx or start straying from a straight path. Classic can keep there deformed freak show game alive. I’m okay with it. TBC Classic will also do great for them. Having Vanilla, TBC, and WOTLK seperate servers will bring back many to the game and inspire other companies to go back to root elements of MMOs.
I’m sure that if everything is smooth we will see them two years after Classic launch. I really don’t care for wotlk but that has a fan base. I couldn’t imagine anyone waking up and saying “I can’t wait to jump on Cataclysm Classic today!” or anything past it.
I don’t think that Ninja or the following that surrounds him will be able to stream or sit through classic streams. I think the only PVP streams that will be active is premade bgs. Going out into world while streaming is asking to be camped relentlessly by numbers greater than you.
I’m all for protecting intellectual property and so on and so forth. That being said, PServers are a slightly gray area to me. Mainly because people are “pirating” a game that’s otherwise unavailable to them…that is, Classic/Vanilla WoW.
The moment classic drops, though, I think PServers enter the area of being immoral because the game is now available from the creators.
now i know you dont like the idea of a classic+ but if they made a totally separate server that didn’t effect classic, and added content, i’d like to see them do a real expac for outlands. by that i mean, another 60 levels with as much land mass as azeroth, with thousands of quests, many more dungeons and raids, all set in tbc style game play.
Considering those are hideously marked-up symbols of excess coveted primarily by spiritually bankrupt (and I mean that in the purest sense, not in the context of a specific religion) individuals for whom luxury is a pissing match with other like-minded persons, I’m not sure they provide much context for the supposedly “moral” outrage against private servers.
If you ask me, the moral angle is just that - an angle. I don’t see it presented with convincing sincerity. It’s just a platform trolls use to attack the classic movement.
Anyway, with perhaps more relevance to the issue at hand, I’d say that there’s a strategic case for the idea of choosing when to go hard and when to pull your punches. Blizzard has, of late, been admirably restrained when it comes to the private server scene.
They’ve been trying to win us back, and it’s been working. Smart.
