Submitting this scam attempt on this forum as my in game ticket couldn’t be sent for some reason.
A little while ago I received a private message from a player with the following text:
“GM: Violation: Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy. Please visit: … We require verification that you are the primary account holder, otherwise we will suspend your Blizzard account.”
I do have a screenshot of the message also showing the name and realm of the player as well as the url of the web page and can send it to you if requested.
The message was received at 23:35 server time, Saturday February the 2nd. No items, currency or anything else was taken from me as I never visited the suggested web page.
Reporting it on the forums will do you no good, same with submitting a ticket for it.
All you need to do is right-click the chat line and report it for spam. Same for every similar message that you may receive in the future.
Please also edit out the message so you don’t advertise for them.

I did edit the url out although I hardly see how this can benefit the scammers when the topic is about a scam. Saddly I was raiding when I received the message and almost instinctively took the screenshot and closed the tab without right click reporting.
Don’t worry others got it and reported it the correct way. No reason to report it on the forums it’s an old scam that still pops up from time to time.

I received the exact same message tonight and reported it via the in game report system. It’s good to share so others are aware, there are a lot of younger/new players that might not realize Blizzard would never message in this way.

There’s no need to do anything but right click - report spam. Blizzard put that option in SPECIFICALLY for this, and it gives them all the info they need. These messages are sent by gold sellers on stolen accounts, so you don’t have a “player’s” info. At best you have the character name of someone whose account was hacked.
